Just got my winter tires from TireRack (in Canada)
For any Canadians interested in what it costs to import tires/rims from TireRack here is the breakdown of what I paid. I bought 205/55R16 Blizzak LM22 RFT on ASA JH3 rims (wanted the Dunlops but they are backordered until December in this size).
Cost breakdown:
Total = $1587.35CA. My local dealership wanted $1750 +tx = $1995CA for the same tires on steel wheels . So I saved myself over $400 and got a much nicer looking set of wheels. I also took a look at TireTrends to see what it would have cost to order the same tire/wheel combo from a Canadian company and the same combo would have cost $1759.18 (including GST - if you live in BC or the atlantic provinces it is a bit more). The dealerships really do overcharge. |

Nice, mine are still at the border being held up with a backlog of paperwork. I went Fedex to lower brokerage but I think UPS would have been more efficient. Fedex has been waiting to fax me the bill since last Monday!! I called Friday and they still didn't think they would fax it till next week. WTF! Anyways looks good that Tirerack is still cheaper than canadian companies!
I got 17" ASA JH3 and 225/45/17 Dunlops M3 DSSTs, the dealer wanted $3500 for Blizzacks and alloys or ~$2000 for blizzacks and steel! I estimated mine coming in at less than $1900!

The brokerage fee wasn't all that much. I had heard before of someone paying over $300 but that must have also included the taxes (which you have to pay no matter where you buy - you Alberta people are lucky enough to escape any PST though). I am curious how much Fedex will charge you. Let me know also how much duty you pay on the Dunlops. I guess the Bridgestones are not made in the US so I had to pay 7% duty on them.
As far as mine are concerned, I was quite surprised at how quick they were delivered. They were only shipped from TireRack on Monday night and they arrived at my door on Friday afternoon. Less than 4 days is good to have them shipped/imported from the US. I would have rather had the Dunlops (heard better things about them) but unfortunately they were backordered until December in the 16" size. |

Just so you know, I paid a grand total of CDN$1893.84 for the 17" set that I posted here: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=33883 That includes $61.42 in shipping and 6% GST.

Don't bother using Fedex, it will save you maybe 20-30 bucks (I'll let you know when I get the bill maybe next year!)and my tires have been at the border since October 16 and just today they faxed me the POA form to allow them to enter Canada. Another poster got his UPS in 3 days from ordering. My next tires will go UPS!

Ordered M3 DSST and ASA JH3's from tirerack on Monday pm. I received them this afternoon. Pretty impressive turnaround time.
Duties totaled $ 354.01 CAD. Brokerage fees were $79.00 and are were included in this amount. Grand total taking into account the exchange rate was approx $1880 CAD. What is everyone doing now with regards to installing their winters . Are you using a shop and if so what kind of pricing? If installing yourself what jack are you using. Anyone use the Canadian tire motomaster jacks? |

Hello,
Does anyone have pictures of their new winter wheel from different angles? With the tire mounted on the wheels, would be nice and on the car even better. I've seen the pictures on TireRack, but non seem to satisfy what I'm looking for. Thanks in advance. Last edited by Norsk; 10-27-2006 at 05:04 AM.. |

Very nice for winters, congrats! If ever you have some from 3/4 rear or front view ... would be great. Quote:
Two more questions; 1) Are the Dunlops RunFlats? 2) Why Dunlop vs the Bridgestone Blizaks LM22s? |

RFT Sensors
Hello,
I spoke to my CA about the winter wheels and the fact the dealer pricing is a little out of whack @ CAD$2895 (4 style 158 wheels + 4 Blizzak LM22RFT) for a 2007 E90 335i. So we spoke about the fact that some reputable providers have packages @ around CAD$1700 to CAD$1900 ... he was pretty O.K. until then. So, he asked me about the way the car will detect a flat or low pressure, I told him about the TPMS sensors which seem to be OEM sensors recommended by the vendor. He did a printout of and and checked with hi technical department. He just called me and told me that BMW does not have TPMS sensors in their wheels, that it's a sensors in the ABS Systems that measure the rotation or something like it to detect a difference in optimal pressure. So he simply tells me to be careful and to check this out as well as hub fitment. I just want to make sure, because this is one powerful little puppy and over the years the seat of pants have proven very sensitive to any abnormal wheel/tire vibration. So what do you think? Does any one have very technical info, a ".pdf" or pictures on the way BMW detects loss of pressure? |
