BMW ALARM vs Aftermarket

Hi guys,

Wanted to find out if getting BMW E90/91/92/93 OEM Alarm System is better than getting aftermarket ones like Viper?

Please advise.

it depends upon you, and what you require from your security system. Are you looking for something that makes noise, or something that notifies you when someone tampers with your car?

You car cannot be stolen, unless they put it on a flatbed, or have a key. It just can't, so anything you add it just to let you, and everyone around the car, know someone is screwing with your stuff.

Adding the factory system will make noise...a distinct BMW noise, BTW. Adding a Viper system will sound like everyone else's Viper system, but will give you the option to have it page you, or send text messages to you.

If your car is not pre wired for a factory one I would go after market. My 08 328i is pre wired so I went with a factory alarm and it works fine.

Fatcry has a tilt sensor that makes the alarm go off when the car is tilted, like to get the wheels off and to get it on a flat bed truck. After market alrams have this as well.

no, they don't. they can be added, but they only come with a shock sensor...I usually disable the shock sensor and add a tilt sensor when installing an alarm.

I haven't had good luck with aftermarket alarms.. They all seem pretty cheaply made but to be fair, I haven't looked into aftermarket alarms for some years now.

I say go with Factory Alarm

i can vouch for the tilt sensor on mine (OEM). I jacked up the car for an oil change while the car is locked and the alarm went off.

i dont believe aftermarket alarms are compatible with cars equipped with comfort access.

I personally like the OEM alarm just because you don't need to carry a huge alarm key-fob around. Both will be sufficient in create noise letting everyone around know something fishy is going on.

aftermarket remote start and security are both compatible with comfort access...when installing the system we put the comfort access receiver on a relay to prevent it from picking up any type of signal when armed. This also means you never have to carry the factory fob, only the aftermarket one, since the factory fob is always in the car.
