A little OT for you NYC area people...

So my plans to take the girl out to dinner in the city for Xmas eve (plus a few other things) keep getting tossed to the wind. I've checked into a few places down in Little Italy (trying to find a good Italian joint above all, might have to settle for something else), but all or most have last seating for 2 around 6PM...my girl doesnt get out of work til at least 6:30.

With Italians being Catholic and all (as am I), I can understand why they arent open late on the 24th...but there has to be a couple of spots open to 11 or so...anyone have an opinion? Ive already bumbed through Zagat and Google, but the returns are absurd and I cant get any decent freakin review to make it worth checking out....

I would rather not have to, but I've been to Peter Lugers and Ruth's Chris, but it just doesnt seem to fit the bill for the occaision...but if push comes to shove I can always fall back on one or the other.

Matt, its not that easy to find a romantic place in the city since everyone is always in such a hurry and it is a fast paced enviroment. With that said, I would recommend two places. One in the city, one near the city.

In the city, go to Swizz (www.1291swizz.com). I truly love it there, its is Swiss food and the cuisine is AMAZING to say the least. There is a huge wine cellar and the cheese fondue and wiener schnitzel are to die for. I would definetly recommend this place above all, besides it is VERY romantic.

Outside of the city, go to Le Jardin (www.lejardinnj.com) in Edgewater, NJ. The food is great and the atmosphere is awesome too. Also there are amazing views of the city and the hudson river.

Hope this helps man, btw don't forget your party hat for later that night

Dude honestly if I were you Ide take her to Areo's in Bay Ridge Brooklyn. The envirement is beautiful, the people that go there are beautiful. The food is great, the drinks are great. Your not gonna get that sloppy chuncky red sause like that turist trap called Little Italy. Only locals go to Areo's (well as do the cast of the Sopranos). Trust me you will sit at the bar waiting for your table and you wont even want to leave the bar. It rivals any italian resturant in manhattan. I grew up in Brooklyn, now unfortunatly live in south bellmore. Plus right after dinner you can go down the block to this lounge called the Blue Zoo. Very romantic place. Dark inside, blue inside and the its different. You cant go wrong with Areo's

Northern Italian Food

I took my girl here for her birthday a few years ago. Great place. Outstanding atmosphere. Food was amazing. If your into wine they have a great selection. Located in Tribeca. I'm not sure on there x-mas schedule. I highly recommend it.

Areo isnt that great of a place. Bay Ridge might not be the spot. If you want a great for Xmas Eve check out Del Posto on 11th ave. Great place.

yea little italy has just become a tourist trap. i dont even think italians work there anymore. it sucks too cuz we used to go there all the time on sunday (early dinner for us italians) after going to st pats cathedral. i recommend vincents that place is great. they make a great fried shrimp app with spicy marinara gravy (sauce for you non italians)
