Can anyone one confirm if the front brakes(calipers & discs) from say either a (e90) 335i or 335d are straight swap on a pre-lci e87?

I know this is a 3 series forum but I thought you guys are gurus after all 😉👍

The 300 and 330mm brakes are common to both models, so the 348mm stuff should fit just fine i would have thaught.

They will be a straight fit for sure as even BBK kits by Alcon and the like are fitment for E9*/E8* all alike. I'll have a full set of front/rears soon coming off my car if you can hold out just a short while?

No worries bud, don't worry there's no urgency required 😄 was just gathering some info. I've taken ownership of the wifes wee 1 series as I got rid of my Scooby to buy her the E91 and I'm setting up a plan of modifications/upgrades I feel it requires. The front and rear disc were replaced not that long ago but to be honest think the garage I use to use put cheap tat on so I want to replace them and after driving the E91 and realising the brakes on the 1 series were rather poor I think it's a wise move to change the whole lot for a more powerful setup so let me know nearer the time how much your looking for bud 👍 what sort of value are in these anyway????

If you go from 330mm to 345mm you will need callipers and maybe carriers as well.

330mm! I wish lol my wee 1 series has 300mm discs on the front. Just been on 1addicts and been told fronts are no problem and are a direct fit but the backs are a PITA to do as the hand brake shoes are not compatible 😳 I was on babybmw and someone recons a guy josh fitted them on his one series but was no longer on there as he bought a 3 series so fingers crossed he's on here and sees this thread 😄😄😄

You could use my chassis number for front brakes. I have a e90 330d which has 348mm brakes on the front. Just bought two new discs and pads from bmw. Cost about 100ea disc and 85 for pads.

I suggested callipers because the 345mm disc is a lot thicker than the smaller discs.

Not only is the calliper different, so is the carrier.

And the protection plate?

And will the brake hoses reach?

I can't see it being a straight swop of just discs

Hes already said hes going to swap the calipers, and generally that implies both the caliper and the carrier, as they're typically sold as one part when people are selling used brake upgrades.

Ofcourse you cant just jam bigger disks under the existing caliper, they woudlnt fit as they're bigger...

Seemingly they all fit it's just the handbrake shoes that would cause an issue 😏 the guy on 1addicts says I would need a modified brake shoe but God knows what that means 😳 I take it I can't just fit the shoes from a 335i setup? No doubt the handbrake setup will be completely different. I hope I can get a solution soon as I'm gonna be getting my hands on some front & rear calipers soon and want some beefier brakes on the wee 1'er as soon as I can 😄

They certainly look more purposeful than my current set up lol I'm thinking of going a bronze'ish colour as fancy getting the rims of my LM reps painted the same as this

I'm sure there will be a way of getting rear shoes to fit but would be interesting to know what he means by modified shoes.

i think there are two sizes of brake shoe, and the backplate the shoes attach to are perhaps different.

Check the part number on real oem, it might just mean you need the bigger shoes, or you might need the shoes and the backplate.

ok had a quick shifty. There are two sizes of brake shoe used on the E90.

320d upwards uses 185mm shoes, including 330d and 335d/i.
the smaller engined cars (320i, 318i etc) use a 160mm shoe.

These parts are also common to the 1 series, however most 1's use the smaller 160mm shoes. The 123d and the 130i (which presumably left the factory with larger brakes) use the 185mm shoes.

So the bits will fit, you just likely need the bigger 185mm shoes and the back plate which is part 6:

I dont know if you'll need any other bits, check realoem carefully. Looks like you'll need the adjustment screw part to match the larger shoes, but the expander and handbrake cable are the same.

Cheers bud your a legend 👍 I have my car up on realoem and by the looks of it I will need items 3,4,5 @ 6 😏 am I right in thinking I just need to take a note of those part numbers and head to the stealers for a price? Will also see how much eurocarparts are for the shoes. Anyone used mtech discs?

3 and 6 will be dealer only but seem to be pretty cheap, ~6-7quid each.

You'll get the shoes and springs from a local motorfactor much cheaper than BMW.

I'll take a look with my dealer contact for you if we can get a list of part numbers required. I can get good discounts so could save quite a bit hopefully on the genuine parts.
