Need advice on Service... PORTLAND AREA

Hey guys,

So I passed by Kuni BMW yesterday to get an oil change. I ended paying for a vehicle check as well. My car recently passed the 70k mark so I thought why not...

The results of the check were as follows:

-Rear brakes + rotors + sensors -- 661.50$

-front brakes + rotors + sensors -- 661.50$

-Oil filter housing (light leaking) -- 737.32$!!!

-Shift shaft seal (M transmission) -- 520.37$!!

The labor is just crazy I mean all the hardware you need to change front and rear brakes can be bought from ECS tuning for ~690$
If I'm not mistaken the shift shaft seal costs nothing...

What would you guys do? Does any of you have mechanics they trust to work on this car?

I'm particularly worried about the oil filter housing..

your inputs are greatly appreciated!

Marv

I might end up taking it to another BMW that offered a better deal. They also have a 2009 CPOd 135i I've been thinking about those for a while...

but hey keep the ideas coming

suggestions for specialized indy shop or trust worthy mechanics?

Those numbers doesn't sound reasonable to me.

Try to hit Mike at Pro-tek(sandy blvd) He can deal all kinds of mechanical issues with reasonable quote.

It's the silver box located between the engine , air box, and the intake snorkel (where the oil filter sits)

Why do you need the rotors changed? Was the wear on the brake pads that bad that it warped the rotors? With that said, brake pads are easy to change.....

Also, I believe the silver box you're referring to is the HPFP.....The oil filter housing is the round thing above the HPFP, no?

Every BMW rotor has a minimum thickness stamped into it, if said rotor is below that minimum thickness they need to changed.

But with the proper maintenance of the brake pads, one would think that the rotor would last more than just 70K, no?

No. The rotors are designed to wear down in conjunction with the pads which is why they can not be turned. I typically see a 1 to 1 (pads to rotors) replacement on the front and 2 to 1 replacement on the rear.

Mileage varies on driving profile.
