Tyre (Tire) option for 8J square

Searched and seen others posts, but cannot make up my mind...

As the title I'm trying to find the perfect setup for my daily E92 330i. Due to road conditions here in London, I've bought a set of 18" 8J all around and now trying to find tyre options.

My current setup:

225/35/19 8J (15mm spacer = ET22)
255/30/19 9J (15mm spacer = ET24)

New setup (8J ET20 Square):

Option 1: 235/40/18 square

Option 2: 245/40/18 Square

Option 3: 225/45/18 and 245/40/18 (1% difference front and back, but not sure if its too big? Truck look?)

Option 4: 235/40/18 and 245/40/18 (1.22% difference front and back)

245 square seems perfect to me and I could rotate but unsure if 245 with ET20 will rub on the front or if it will upset the ABS etc. compared to current setup.

Appreciate any help

I think I like 245/40 setup, it does seem a little bigger than your current setup so maybe it will get stuck on the fronts at full lock?

But I've never tried, so maybe someone else could help.

I ran 245/40s on 18x8s with 32mm of offset.

never rubbed.
speedometer wasn't off enough to be an issue, but you can reprogram it if it bothers you.

20mm of offset is going to put them out under the fender lip I think.

looked like this

I had read in some posts, 245 is too wide for 8J wheels, would anyone happen to have more details on this?

check the tire manufacturers specs, but you'll find most 245/40s are min 8" wide wheel.
would an 8.5 or 9 be better? probably, but if the manufacturer says it fits I'm good.

I've seen plenty on the Audi side with 8J and 245's. I think it would look nice, it shouldn't look that much narrower than your 255's from the back and you would have a square setup to rotate. Do post a pic wouldn't mind seeing what it looks like if you do happen to go that route.

Appreciate the response guys. I've had a good search on the forum and I think I like the 245 square as its only 0.51" bigger on the front compared to stock and 0.69" on the back.

My only concern is the fronts rubbing with a 245/40. Do the E90/91's have bigger wheel wells than E92/3?

Would appreciate if anyone could confirm 245/40's ET20 not rubbing at the front. My current front wheels with spacers are ET22 but these are 225/35's.

Really depends! To my limited knowledge square is better as it reduces understeer compared to staggered.

8J for the rear IMO might be too narrow for the looks. I doubt performance would be affected for daily use but a lot of people tend to run 255-275 on the forum for the rear.

I personally would get 8.5/9J square setup, and I wouldn't choose anything under 255 for the rear as the E9X has a big booty which wouldn't look nice on narrow tyres.

Size wise, I think 17 and 18's look nice. I have 19's also and am considering dropping to 17's with beefy tyres.

Finally, as you're already on ET22 front and you said you do not rub, then you shouldn't have a problem with ET20.

It'll work just fine...I've run more aggressive setups on 245/40/18 with no problem. Just do it.

You'll appreciate the slight gain in ground clearance and the better ride too.

This^

I currently run a larger than spec tire on one of my cars and actually quite like it... yes I know it's too tall, but the extra sidewall helps give a little more cushion and it fills the wheel wells well on my non sport wagon. It needs spacers but I haven't had a chance to mess with it as I barely ever drive this thing.

These are 235/45/18 on oem style 397's 18x8 squares et34. Zero issues rubbing anywhere... will go with 245/40/18 go flats when the RFT's finally wear down a little.

I had 245/40/18 contis all around last go and did not like the steering with the wider tire.

I made the poor financial decision of staggered wheels and a 225 up front.
but I'll admit that was mostly to accommodate sick rims bro.

If you think steering with a 225 feels good, try 195 next. Almost no effort at all!
