So just to clarify, pre 03/07 will not flash. I tried one last night and it errors out before it wipes the ECU. Using SA Option Helper there is only one option for the pre 03/07 and it's a normal transmission flash. So the only option for pre 03/07 is to replace the MCM/TCU that sits above the valve body.

Sorry boyz, that's the facts. Good thing is you do have an upgrade option. When you do so, make sure you get the Zip Pack to upgrade your valve body while you have things apart. Also want to replace the pan/filter and put all new gaskets in to prevent oil leaks. A great weekend project.

Damn! That sounds like ALOT of work. Soo glad I have post 03/07. I have friends who are anti automatic even saying they would consider an auto e92 after driving my car.

I am going to be modifying the data files to flash the Alpina 0da file with the stock 0pa file for the 1st gen tranny, may work, may not. The 0pa file seems to mainly modify how the engine reacts to the shift, rather than changing the operation of the transmission itself, which is why there is a chance this could work

Has anyone looked into upgrading the TCU on a pre 03/07? From what I could gather it appears the TCU and Mechatronic are one unit ? there appears not to be seperate TCU as was the case with earlier model year BMW trannys....that means this is gonna turn out to be expensive$$ , like retro fitting the oil cooler was for us 07 guys

Does anyone know if in fact you could simply place a TCU/Mech from a post 03/07 trans. into a pre 03/07 trans? Would there be any potential codeing /commincation issues for a pre 03/07 DME and the new TCU/Mech....Wedge1967 or BilkionPa any thoughts?

We have a member with a 10/06 car with an 08 transmission that I've coded with the Alpina flash. It was a plug and play.

no kidding, thats why only 1 person will get the modified file, and if the car works after, will need to be driven for a week or so to make sure there is no odd behaviour before posting the file

Only if you are looking to make above 500whp, then it starts to become a weak point, otherwise the auto trans is pretty rock solid imo.

Good news. So why are so many people looking into upgrades? Are that many people here making that much HP?

Sounds cool, is the file in assembly language? how are you modding it?

Sihk335 and he swapped the entire transmission. But, the transmission is the same 6HP19TU, just the MCM was upgraded in 3/07.

This upgrade is more for correcting a sloppy factory shift program with a better, much crisper one, it also helps with the high horsepower 4-5 shift which has been an issue.

the modification will not be done to the software files themselves, but rather to the data files winkfp uses to reference what software to send to the car
