No BMW Performance Suspension for the 335is?
I thought the 335is' suspension is the same one as the 335i with sport package. If that's the case why does BMW's site show the Performance Suspension as an option for the 335i but not for the 335is?
Does that mean the 335is already comes with the Performance Suspension? If not, why don't they offer it? |

If it's built on the same e92 chassis and has the same suspension as the current 2011 e92 335i w/sport why would it require a different suspension?

If they include the BMW Performance Suspension they would have to increased the price again then it will get closer to the M3 pricing.

from BMW NA website, the 335is already has the sport suspension that is an option on the rest the 3series,the perfoprmance susp that is BMWs own "aftermarket" for a 335i coupe should work with a 335is

My question pertains to adding on the BMW Performance Suspension (not to be confused with sports suspension), not getting it from factory.
Notice the 335is has no upgrade option for suspension yet the 335i does. 2011 335is Coupe http://accessories.bmwusa.com/Access...=623&perf=true 2011 335i Coupe http://accessories.bmwusa.com/ItemVi...=1&subItemId=7 |

Im sure it will be available soon. They are all coded to the particular VIN for the car. I bet they are pairing the right shocks/struts to spring combo.

I drove by a 335is today and it looks like the drop on it is lower then the standard sport suspension on a 335i. Is it lower or do you think the car I saw had a drop done to it? It still had temp plates on so I didn't think the owner had time to drop it yet.

The 335i M Sport Package is an appearance package only. Nothing is mentioned about the suspension. http://www.bmwusa.com/Standard/Conte...ndOptions.aspx For the 335is, note the "sport suspension calibration". http://www.bmwusa.com/Standard/Conte...dMbD2r5/jz9A==

http://www.bmwusa.com/Standard/Conte...ndOptions.aspx The 335is, has a "sport suspension calibration" and it is indeed 1/2" lower that a 335i. That's why the car appears so sit lower than a 335i (with or without the M Sport package). http://www.bmwusa.com/Standard/Conte...dMbD2r5/jz9A==

There were no changes made between the 335is vs the 335i in terms of the suspension. A coilover suspension basically gives you a matched lowering spring and shock absorber combination with the added benefit of adjustable ride height and spring rates through a moveable spring perch or perches. Coilovers are to your car's advantage by reducing unsprung mass, increasing suspension travel, and allowing the car to be corner balanced. The answer is simple, you get what you pay for when it comes to vehicle suspension. As such a crucial component of your vehicle, suspension is definitely something you do not want to cheap out on.
KW is known for their reinforced and durable suspension components. KW's coilovers have been carefully crafted and designed by studying the flaws of competitors and improving on them. In addition KW coilovers can go lower than just about any other brand and allow you to set your car to a "slammed look", "sporty look", or anywhere in between. In the unfortunate event that anything should happen to your coilovers, KW's warranty backs all their products from manufacturer's defect. I'll shoot you over a PM with more details! - Alan |

The BMW on-line documentation specifically states the 335is has a sports tuned suspension. My sales person explained it pretty well when I asked about this. the 335i is 15mm (0.59") lower than the 328i the 335is is 10mm (0.39") lower than the 335i the 335is is 25mm (0.98") lower than the 328i The 335is spring rates are different than a 335i (M Sport package or not) and it does sit lower than a 335i. This is why BMW does not currently offer a Performance Suspension kit for the 335is (yet, it's still in development). Check it out... http://accessories.bmwusa.com/ItemVi...=1&subItemId=7

ssaylor,
Are you saying that even though the 335is has the same sport suspension as a 335i w/Sport Package (ZSP) or M Sport Package (ZMP) it still sits lower? I know that a standard 335i sits higher than the same 335i w/Sport Package or M Sport package. Are you comparing the 335is to a 335i without the sports suspension? I'm confused. |

I almost feel like pulling out a spring when I get my suspension installed and put them on a spring bench to find out the Spring Rate.

I am still waiting on more technical information from the dealer on this. The catalog definately shows a BMW suspension kit for the "is" but it is very vague and I have not received confirmation that it really will lower the car another 10mm from where it is now (Front or Rear). I am waiting for the Swift springs to come out but they have been delayed several times. On my EVO and my Brothers EVO these spings settled to 1" drop no more which was perfect.
The "is" does not need to be dropped further than that and my fear is with any other springs out there it will be slammed and just handle poorly and scrape everywhere. Not going there.... |
