Take off the shift knob by putting the car in neutral...Then with force pull straight up until the shift knob comes off...Its takes a little more force than you would think, but it will come off....Next open the console and pry the trim out from the console you just opened up for better leverage and angle to use small flat screw driver and pry up...the entire trim is held by clips..once the trim comes off, you need to detached the wiring harnass from the idrive and cigarette lighter ....Once the wiring is free from the harnass, just unhook the idrive piece as it is self explanatory once you see it! Good luck

if you want to put the car into neutral for your AT you can. just park on level surface and have the Ebrake on.
