Anyone here in IT? I need to transfer my portable hard disc drive files to another one because my daughter dropped it and my CPU is not reading it but there's power.

It's possible. I had mine installed Monday.

Well my day job is not tech support but I'm pretty computer savvy so...First thing to try. Connect that external HDD to a different PC to see if that detects it. If not...try to see if you can pull out the HDD from the case(you mentioned portable) and see if you can connect it directly to the motherboard. It's either got two rows of pins on the back for the data and a separate group of 4 pins for power(molex) which means parallel ata, or two small tabs with connectors on them which means serial ata. If you don't know what I just wrote, and I don't mean to be insulting by the way, I (or someone else) would need to see it in person and help you with it.

There are tools that can be used to try to access/recover the data, but going through the steps online is pretty difficult(at least for me to explain clearly), so.

Hope that helps

I'll try another CPU, I tried taking it apart but I can't see inside if I might rip off a tab or part or something else.

Is it a 3.5" or a 2.5" HDD? I notice if it's the smaller external ones there's no sata or plugs for it when opening them. I experienced this first hand cuz I was a computer technician for two years, still am one today (day job).

What's the brand?

Can anyone recommend an audio shop to have a custom enclosure built? I'm specifically looking at getting one shaped to the side of my trunk.

Musicarnw in Oregon makes a custom enclosure for E90/92 that is molded to the area above the battery tray. Looks damn near stock, may want to check them out.
