Told not to do staggered setup

I apologize if this topic has already been covered.

I went to a tire shop and ask for a price on tires. He told me NOT to run a staggered set up on a XI. He said its going to cause drive train problems in the future.

This is the same thing that antoher shop told me in the summer of June last year when i bought my M3 reps.

So is it preffered to run a square set up on XI?

Also, if you bought the sport package or different wheels from factory isnt it a option to get staggered set up on the XI or X drive?

thanks in advance.

Yes this has been covered. You'll find a few more threads in this section on this topic.

And yes, you can run staggered wheels on the xi model. A factory option was to have 18x8 front and 18x8.5 rear rims with 225 front and 255 rear tires.

I ran staggered wheels/tires for 3 years. No problems. Those two shops do not know what they are talking about. As stated above, BMW delivers these cars from the factory with that option.

Yea, that being said, I wouldn't do anything crazy. I'd stick to factory sizing if you want to be safe.

You can stagger your tire width as much as you like.

You can not stagger your tire diameter - essentially at all.

(super tiny differences in diameter are fine... nut nothing substantial)

As long as the front and rear rolling diameters are within 1% of each other, you can run a staggered setup.

You can use the calculator in the wheel/tire section to calculate the rolling diameter.
