SpeedFreak Detailed: Audi A4 - tar city!
Had the pleasure of meeting up with a member of bimmerforums this past Sunday in Annapolis, to do some work on his A4 S-line. During the course of our PMs, he had expressed that the car had some rather deep scratching that he wanted addressed. Specifically, on the rear bumper area and around the wheel wells. Also, the car had sat on the dealer lot for quite a while and had somehow gotten tar spattered all over the body.
Our plan was to address the tar issue, and hopefully remove it with a clay bar, remove the scratching, and give the entire car a good one step correction via the FLEX to remove swirling and any other defects that remained. Unfortunately the claying process took close to three hours and I was running out of daylight, so I only managed a quick one or two after shots. Also the engine was degreased, with special attention being paid to the sticky grease build up on the frame rails. This stuff was STUBBORN and required a good bit of elbow grease. Products Used:
The car as it sat when I arrived. The Sonax wheel cleaner doing it's job, APC used on the wheel wells After the initial wash was complete Tar spatter on driver's side mirror passenger side mirror Passenger side A-pillar Sun shots showing swirling Getting taped up and ready for polish Scratching on the rear bumper. This area had penetrated the clear coat completely so I corrected it as best I could without risk of sacrificing the surrounding clear More scratching on bumper Engine befores Engine After As I said earlier, I ran out of daylight so my apologies about the lack of after shots. Just snapped a quick few that I figured were better than nothing. Thanks for looking! Best Regards, Brian Lewis 703-945-0629 |

Nice work, Brian! I see that you're roughing it outdoors. I'd gladly exchange the comfort of my shop for a little exterior detail help with my Tundra. It's not that I can't do this myself, it's that I don't want to. We could skip the Dawn as there isn't a speck of wax on her anywhere!
Here's how she looks today. She could use a little love. |

Adam,
The weather has actually been pretty nice!!! I'm going to Brazil on Monday for two weeks and have a bunch of jobs to schedule when I get back but maybe I can bring mine up and we'll do a dual truck detail! How did you run at MIR? Break the record you were goin' for? -Brian |

A dual detail sounds great. I could use some inspiration over here! we can drag Matt in too! I ended up just spectating last Friday at MIR. The temps in the upper 70's would probably have killed my chances at the record and beating on my car just for fun didn't seem like a good idea. I'm sure there will be another track rental before spring and my new stage 4 clutch is broken in and ready to rip! |

Talked to Matt last night and he said he's in too. I've got a Ton of new products I want to try out. Some polishes from Pinnacle, and a new sealant from Wolfgang that looks promising as well. Brian |
