I'm waiting for mines to rattle. I have 10,000 miles/1 year left before the WG warranty ends.

Guy who owned mine before me was a BMW tech and he got the turbos replaced under warranty just before i bought it. Friend of mine actually bought the walnut blast kit from Bav Auto and did it ourselves. Tedious but worth it.

Shoot him a PM, he's on 1addicts, the forums are all linked, if you are interested. User name Drewster99. I believe he still has the kit. Takes about 6-7 hours total if you take your time and make sure everything is right. Definitely need to plan a whole day for it.

I was thinking of getting the DIY kit and doing it, but it definitely seems daunting. The sparking the starter is what freaks me out most lol

It was scary thinking about it, but its honestly nothing but noisy. We bought a trigger switch on amazon made specifically for jumping the starter and it worked perfectly. Its actually quite slow the way everything moves and its easy to see when the valves are closed/seated fully. Its just more time consuming and tedious than anything. Last thing you want is to get shells all over the place on inside the engine. Just patience and set aside a whole day. If you are planning on keeping the car its worth buying the kit for sure. Just make sure you get all the gaskets for throttle body and intake manifold too.

Where'd you guys get the kit? BAV auto? I'm going to call The Little Speedshop today and get a quote on the cost and how long I'll be without my car... I just watched a video on how to do it, I might go at it myself.. Getting pretty annoyed with this rough idle.

Has anyone ever heard of what turbos are best for these cars? Mine are shot - the wastegates are unbearable and I feel like they have so much lag...

prolly best to ask in the N54 engine section......depending on your build month and mileage you may be able to have BMW replace the turbos under the extended warranty

Oi, I wish that were the case. I missed the warranty by like 2,000 miles and the guys at Towne BMW really piss me off they acted like they had not a single clue what I was even talking about when I asked about it.

unless you are planning to upgrade or go single turbo i would push the issue with BMW North America and ask for a good faith repair......its a known issue that they have admitted to being a problem.....if you complain enough to the right people you never know. only hangup might be that its just the wastegate rattle and the turbos havent necessarily failed yet.

you can literally do it with a small piece of wire, but for the cost this seemed safer and easier
