SoCal BMW dealer- CBU cleaning $1049
FYI. It's $1049 at McKenna. You can get it done for $750 at Offset Motorwerks but if BMW people doing the work gives you $350 worth of peace of mind, here's your answer. Probably good to know for someone out there.

How do they describe the details of the procedure for that level of price? Remove and clean the intake? Do they clean the head, too for that price?

I'll take my chances with Offset Motorwerks when it's that time. They've already made a good impression on me by responding to my inquiry super quick.
Stealerships are my last resort.

My SA refers to my car as an M57. Not a 335d. He drives an X5d himself and is constantly telling me cool stuff about the car. When my injectors were done I had the option to have my carbon cleaning performed at dealer for $750, which is the cost apart from parts supposedly. I chose not to because at the time I wanted to have a meth kit to install when it was done (to keep it gone)... which got me researching meth kits and today I have a meth kit. Doh! Should've went for it. |

My only hesitation wasn't their lack of knowledge but my own. I wasn't sure if they knew how to do the carbon cleaning on a diesel because I didn't know what difference might exist (none, apart from more work). I'll probably have BMW do it when its time, but I'll work every angle and end up getting it for the same price as offset. I get worried about walnut shells left in the wrong place and causing unknown side effects. Then again, not having to remove the meth kit before taking it in, that would be alright by me. They are forum sponsors, too. I don't know how a BMW shop can survive without being a forum sponsor, but still. I'm a HUGE HUGE fan. |

"If that day comes, we will replace your intake and do the cleaning procedure and the factory or CPO warranty will cover it." That makes me happy, but it highlights how screwed up things are. Your guy was going to charge you $750 and you are happy with that. |

good to hear, but also curious if that price includes getting the intake manifold AND cylinders cleaned. I have spoken to my bmw tech buddies multiple times, and they said the D is a pain in their ass compared to the 335i because they cannot let the walnut shells get into the DPF, whereas the 335i can just eat them up and spit them out the exhaust.

Spoke to a local dealer this afternoon and they said they even had one in the shop at the moment going through the very same thing. Said it should be no more than $1.8k to $2k when all is said and done; that's about $350 worth of parts, the rest is labor (and they send the intake out to be cleaned/dipped, as the SB says.)
Not sure I would buy a 535d unless BMW could tell me why NA 335d's are experiencing this issue at a seemingly disproportionate rate - what's to say the 535d doesn't suffer form the same fate? (What's the problem, BMWNA?)

They are a forum sponsor and they are doing 335i's for $450 or $499 (can't recall) and ours are $1049, which includes parts and labor. The intake manifold gets cleaned, yes. I wouldn't be surprised if they were able to perform the soak on site. But I have no idea. They keep your car for two business days. |

SI B 11 03 14 just came out from BMW in April of 2014; I'm still trying to ascertain how many labor hours BMW claims that the procedure should take.
http://www.e90post.com/forums/attach...9&d=1397578602 Also, and new intake can be had for under $900, so one had better not spend a whole lot more than what it would cost just to R/R a new intake and clean out the top of the cylinder head. Hell than one could have a spare intake on hand ready to go! http://parts.bmwofsouthatlanta.com/p...618519140.html

And that may be plausible if you keep the old intake and have it cleaned and ready to go for the next time it needs cleaning! Rotable spares - it'd be like a real Formula One garage!
