OK – for my intake I purchased the following from http://www.auto-performance.co.uk:

1 x 2” 45 degree silicone elbow
2 x 2” 90 degree silicone elbow
1 x 3” to 2” silicone straight reducer
5 x 100mm 2” aluminium hose joiner
1 x 100mm 3” aluminium hose joiner
7 x Jubilee Hose Clips - 55mm to 70mm
2 x Jubilee Hose Clips - 70mm to 90mm

I cut and modified one of the 2” aluminium hose joiners so that it has a 90” lip on the end. You can see this in the photo where the lip is inside the air box, with a rubber o-ring behind it to create a seal. This is then secured on the outside using a jubilee clip.

The air filter is a K&N Round Tapered (Cone) Universal Air Filter (option RR-3003). I bought this from http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/

All of the silicone hose needs cutting, use my photos to judge where I made my cuts.

These items were configured from the air box down as below:

1 – Modified hose joiner, with rubber o-ring
2 – 45 degree elbow
3 – 90 degree elbow
4 – 60mm (aprox) straight off cut from 45 degree elbow (this is placed over a 100mm hose joiner and attached to the 90 degree elbows at either end)
5 – 90 degree elbow
6 – 3” to 2” reducer
7 – Air filter

You will notice on the last photo that I have also cut the n/s brake air duct to provide air flow to the air filter. I have also secured the filter using cable ties to a conveniently placed tab beneath the headlight unit.

You can see in the second photo that the hose, after the first 90 degree elbow, runs left towards the engine bay. This is important to prevent the hose from being squashed by the inner wheel liner.

well thought I'd just update

fitted the filter last week, and have to say the engine does feel a little free'er flowing if that makes sense, & although yes it could just be placebo.. Im willing to bet its not.

However, it may not be the branded filter - as you can see the old filter was pretty dirty...

so if anything the best advise is :

This is good data. Installed the Cobb ECU (stage 1 sport). I've been reading that I really need to get better airflow before moving to stage 2, and was considering a drop in as a cheap remedy. Not sure I'll even move to stage 2, but would appreciate the extra air flow. Also, agree with the previous posts recommending the oil catch can. Every car should have one of these, an N54 for sure though. Thanks for all the great data.
