The "lost after first wash post-wax/sealant" effect

Yes... stupid title, but I have had this question for a long time and I can´t get a solid answer.

The thing is that after the first car-wash post waxing or sealing the car, the results you get after waxing get diminished. The wax will last for weeks, but that first wash really seem to affect the wax/sealant layer.... even when using mild car soap.

Any comments?

did you try cutting back on the amount of soap you use? like if it says to add an ounce, add half an ounce of mild soap to your water. then follow with a nice qd if you don't wanna do another layer of wax. thats what i do but i'm no pro.... i do find that doing this keeps my black bimmer lookin sexy clean instead of dust coated blahh

First, what waxes and or sealants are you using? Second, what car wash soaps do you use?

I don't get it after the first wash but after several weeks I do but the beading is still there. If the gloss is gone, hit it with a QD or gloss enhancer.

Thank you for the responses. This really happens with any of them. I use Zaino soap. The truth is that I have noticed it with most of them. The beading and gloss is still there after months, but the paint is not as smooth and the gloss is not as "shocking".

I do use Zaino QD also after each wash.

Ok, so your using Zaino for your washes. How many capfuls per gallon of water are you using. I also use Zaino and my Crimson Red 335i looks sweet after a Zaino wash or any wash.

I assume your using Zaino for your LSP, maybe Z2 Pro? I would do mulitple coats of Z2 and use Z6 between coats. Top that with Z8 and you should be fine.

I will say that if you haven't properly cleaned, polished and prepped your paint surface, it can only look so good.

sounds like you aren't using a good LSP.

It's Zaino!
Paint was prepared and multiple layers (3) of zaino has been used.

The other thing is that the surface looses the smoothness within weeks...

QD helps though.

I have no idea, I'm stumped because I've had Zaino on my car for 2 months and it's slick a grease.

are you letting it cure prior to putting on the next layer? what are you using for prep?

Paint was clayed then polished.

Second layer was done after 2 weeks and after 3 months I applied another layer.

I use Mother's car wash on my car and I applied 3 coats of Zaino Z2 in November. It's raining now and my car is still beading. I usually apply it in the garage and let each coat sit for about an hour before removing and applying the next coat.

I actually think this might be where your problem is. I don't see the need to use a QD after a wash. A QD should be used in-between washes.

If you're determined to continue using a QD after washing....at the very least dilute with water (distilled water that is...not tap water).

It does bead (beautifully)....

What I'm trying to say is that the "just waxed look" (shine-wise) is never the same after even the first post-wax wash.

it is true somewhat. after the first wash it just doesn't feel or look the same as just waxed. Even though the wax is still there and beads. What I have tried (with swissvax anyway) is to stick it back under the sun after I washed and dried for 10 minutes and then buff it again with a clean MF cloth. Seems to make the surface a bit more slick then straight after the wash.

Using QD to bring the gloss and slick feel back, you're just feeling the QD on top of the wax..

No wax involved.

In the past (with other cars) and using wax, it does happen the same thing and actually seems to me that with wax (Vs sealant) the difference after the first wash is even bigger.

I would forget using the traditional water and soap deal and head straight to using ONR ........... I can tell you the time you spend waxing your car will greatly diminish when regularly using ONR to clean the car.
