now that u bring audi into the debate
i'm actually quite impressed with what audi have been releasing lately
i'm love the new TT and quite like the Q7, R8 (Even though i don't really think audi have much chance in the supercar league - especially with big brother lambo as such a heavy stone on its head) and even though the A5 does indeed look like an e92, it does seem to have a bit of potential - especially if they release with a few decent engines to match those good looks.
i was reading somewhere recently that there are predictions that if audi continues with the growth it's been experiencing, it'll be bigger than both mercedes and bmw by 2020. i'm not saying it'll happen but wow that would be interesting to see.

and supposedly they're making the things actually handle as well

but from what i've driven, after being used to MINI's and BMW's the steering of an Audi is REALLY light - but it does tighten up at speed

It was in the February edition of Wheels magazine.

Stuff like that is pretty poor journalism. Yes, Audi have been getting massive growth, year on year, for a decade, but that doesn't mean it will continue for another 12 or 13 years. Continued high growth gets harder and harder - there are only so many people interested in buying a car so the market is only so big.

i remember reading that too.

i agree that growth would plateau out eventually, though i am quite impressed with their work.

although one thing which suprises me is the amount of people that are buying tricked up vw golfs (very good cars, i might add) branded as audi a3's, and commanding a 10k premium for some leather and a nice dash.

the interiors are very nice though, and i love that 'flat bottomed' steering wheel found in the RS4, TT, and the GTI...! Interesting how it made it to the GTI, but not the A4, A3...

a4 2.0T quattro... c'mon - that's pretty sporty! as is the a3 2.0T quattro...! pretty much same as the GTI... i'd feel ultra ripped off if I bought one of those and didn't get the steering wheel. i think i'd demand they rip one off a GTI and whack it in haha.

I've only driven the new 3.2 TT (tiptronic) and to me it didn't seem to "feel" all that fast. Apparently the torque curve is really flat. I suspect the 2.0 Turbo may be more fun to drive. The back seats were a bit of a joke!

i dun really see that happening

i hang out at a tt forum as well (only coz i've fallen in love with the damn thing) and they were talking abt bringing in a turbo 2.5 and a 3.6
but both are definately only maybes

the reviews of the new TT - a majority of them say that even though the 2.0T is front wheel drive - it's still the one to choose over the 3.2

and as for a4 and a3's with 2.0T they're the 'normal' ones and the S4 and S3 are the 'sporty' ones

because isn't the 2.0T the base model on them? no actually there's a 2.0 without T but yeah it's still a lower almost base model and so don't get the flat-bottomed steering wheel

Don't you hate when drivers put their hands upside down inside the wheel when turning corners or parking? Most cars have power steering now so you don't need the extra power and there is NO control of the wheel to make mid turn adjustments if your hand is inside the wheel. Those people should go back to driving school. (RANT)

maybee i should go back to "driving school"... either that or my car has the heaviest steering at low speeds of any car i have driven higher speeds are fine, but in carpark speeds, it's like soo heavy

Haha I know exactly what docbeemer is talking about- and to tell the truth i've seen it less and less these days. This under hand movement used to be the fad of the 90's but yea, it's prolly dangerous as well..
and bad driving technique astra! relax u can grow out of it..
