oem vs drilled rotors

I get the concept of drilled or slotted rotors, but for daily driven r street use cars is there any reason I should buy drilled rotors over OEM? My rear brakes are due and my fronts by this summer. I don't need anything special or an "upgrade" per say but was looking at eds tuning and rear drilled rotor aren't much more than OEM" like $150. I have an e90 328I

also, does rotor style effect pad life in any way? Do I need special pads for drilled?

I suggest OEM, it's a good quality rotor for nearly all applications, especially street.

Slotted rotors are good for high performance applications, mostly for heat-related reasons and because they give the pad better bite. They eat pads faster than normal rotors though. Also noisier.

Drilled rotors - I don't know why people buy them save for 'looks'; they only appear performance oriented to people that are not knowledgeable about performance applications (where slotted is superior in all cases I'm aware).

yea, the more research i do on stoptech rotors the less i want to buy them.

Who else makes good OEM-quality rotors other than buying them from BMW where they will be 2x as much.

You can always get the StopTech blank rotors. They're said to last longer than OEM.

The reviews i was reading on the stoptech drilled rotors were the greatest, havent read anything about their OEM style rotors, but I would to go with a quality replacement rotor and I am not sure if stoptech meets those requirements or not

I have Centric Premium Carbon (Stoptech) Blanks with Stoptech street pads for 335i daily.

Perfect and no issues.

Not a fan of drilled or slotted.

Where are you guys buying your brakes from?

Real OEM or ECS Tuning, tunermotorsports, tirerack... ?

Want to buy some quality rotors, non drilled or slotted, that aren't going to rust out. THanks.

For example... ECS Tuning has a few different style rotors.. they have 2 different OEM rotos, one at $166 and the other at $152... not sure what the difference is? ... how does OEM compare to say, the "ECS Tuning" brand rotors they offer at $140 or the zimmerman rotors at $144?

Fcpeuro has great prices and free shipping when I did my rear brakes about a month ago. Far cheaper prices than ECS and they even offered free shipping.

Drilled are mainly for looks but if you get BMW Performance brakes they are drilled...they come that way on the M cars too I believe so drilled are not necessarily a "non-performance" product.

I am probably going to try R1Concepts rotors when I replace mine. They were extremely well reviewed on the Infiniti forums and I had a set on my g35 before I sold it.

If I tracked my car I probably would not choose drilled rotors but since I don't and I do enjoy the sporty look I will get drilled and slotted when I replace mine.

Yea I have completely ruled drilled (or slotted) rotors out. I plan on going with OEM-style rotors.

looking for more suggestions as to where to buy from and what brands.

Looking at zimmerman rotors too but i hear that intial bite isn't as strong as OEM which im not sure if i'll like. Looking for an OEM-brake feel - obviously i know i can get that with OEM rotors but looking for other suggestions. thanks.

Blanks are the way to go for a street driven car. Most guys will use blanks on the track too, because they are less expensive to replace.

As stated, the slotted will quickly eat away pads and rotors.

Brembo, Zimmerman, or we sell cryogenically frozen rotors which last much longer than most. Shoot me a PM for pricing.

My stock OEM rotors were replaced under warranty 9 months ago, and are already warped to hell.
+5 for frozen rotors, had them on my E34, they looked brand new after 30000 miles, even with harsh use and through 2 Minnesota winters (yay for salt). They were cadmium plated brembo blanks I believe.
