How much for a vanity url?

Someone is squatting on my last names URL. I want to buy it from him. I emailed him about getting it. His response was "make an offer".

How much should I offer?

It's probably like buying a used car; the first offer will be rejected, no matter how much.

If he's in the U.S. and doesn't share your last name, you should offer not to take him to court for asking for an offer.

Wow, did not know about that. Awesome.

Should the OP email the cybersquatter and ask if he has any intentions with the URL? That way if the guy says no, he'd have email proof which could be used to enforce what you posted.

That would be a good idea. Also the wayback machine at archive.org might be able to provide evidence of what the domain was previously used for, providing it's been around for long enough. It seems to be unavailable now for some reason.

Damn the wayback machine isn't working. I've been wanting to wrest my last name's domain from this asian asshole for a while now (no racist).

Thanks for links Radix.

Are you allowed to buy and sell URLs? Let's say a new extension came out called .abc or something, can you buy pepsi.abc and sell it to them? Or is that prohibited?
