Admiral Analed Me
Basically I rang up Admiral to declare my CU80 last night
Guess what? They raped me with £950 increase!! Am I allowed to rant?

Is a CU80 caught using a phone?
Something seriously wrong at £950 extra. Even drunk drivers don't get hit anywhere near that hard. I bet they also have cancellation charges on the policy too. |

That is crazy. I just got a renewal quote for my car with both myself and my wife on it. I had to add an SP30 for myself and a CU80 for the wife and it only went up by £40.

Spend 100 on a Parrot kit or a tenner on a headset and no worries
As above I can't understand anyone nowadays who risks this one, totally stupid. Bet the call wasn't even important. |

To be fair, hands free is no safer. It's not the fact that you are steering with one hand that leads to the accidents. My employer, for example, forbids me talking to people who are driving whilst using any kind of mobile phone.

The best one I see all the time is when the phone is held in hand but not up to the ear obviously on loudspeaker. It's as if people think this is ok and legal. This might make you think twice http://m.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-humber-23876320

funny how using a mobile while driving is such a crime and im not condoning it but buy a bicycle and you can act like an absolute arsehole! completely ignore the highway code no insurance ride up one way streets ignore red lights nearly knock pedestrians over on crossings , get yourself killed by an hgv because you ride up the inside of it and even then you don't get the blame, forgot, you can also use your mobile!

Admiral are merely looking at the increased risk you are no bringing to the insurance pool. The courts are taking a much harder line on this and if you found yourself convicted of dangerous driving after maiming someone else, Admiral could be looking at damages claim against them of £ hundreds thousands.
Certainly be worth trying other insurers but you may find that this way an expensive mistake to make. |

A 950 hike sounds awfully like "unwanted business" to me. When I worked in insurance we did this to people we wanted off the books. We weren't allowed to refuse cover to existing clients or people we covered prior to their ban so we jacked up the premium massively to try and make them go away.

No I fully agree, but this a forum, and people are entitled to opinions, threads never stay on topic, especially when you post something that could be taken or seen in a negative light by others.

There doesn't seem to be a question by the OP over guilt or the punishment given for the offence. He looks to have accepted that part. |

It does just sound like they really don't want to insure you.
When I added mods to my car my Admiral renewal cost went up by 200%. Even the guy on the end of the phone couldn't believe the cost, it was clear they simply didn't want to touch a highly modified car. We all know what insurance companies are like, there's little point trying to understand how they work out their costs. There are plenty of other insurance companies, just take your business some where else . |
