NE Ohio - Conti DWS vs dedicated snows 335xi

I am a new owner of a 335xi (actually first BMW). Last 5 years I have been driving a jeep wrangler in the snow and I see from the stock Conti SSRs that they may not work out that well on my daily winter commute. Should I go for the swap to the DWS or just bust the bank and get a dedicated winter set? Anyone running the DWS that can give the thumbs up for NE Ohio winters?

I ran 16" runflats in winter last year, and i just got 18" dws installed in SE Michigan. I can tell you this much from my experience, you have an XI, you will be perfectly fine with the DWS according to our terrible winters

Good to hear. Since I have not experienced the xdrive yet, I wanted to be well prepared for winter. The DWS have impressive reviews and the Tirerack test in Sweden is also impressive.

Last year on my 335xi, I took off my Dunlop Winters and put new DWS's on a little too early. We got about 8" of snow the next week and while the DWS's handled good, they were not as great as the Dunlop Winter 3Ds are. My back end slid a little in a turn where with the winters, I never had that happen before.

you'll get around perfectly fine with DWS, but you'll get around better in snow with dedicated winter tires... but then you'll lose a little of the quiet ride and better handling on dry roads.

went with the DWS (struggled with wanting to get dedicated snows). After first snow, will post again. Thanks for your responses!

You will be very happy. Most days roads are dry and dws have great handling, totally quiet. Fine in snow just not great. But I only have 2 WD, you have 4

DWS should be fine with your xi. If yours was rwd, then I'd recommend a dedicated set of Blizzaks.

Thanks again. Got the DWS installed this weekend, nice look, just need to break them in to see how good they really are. Running recommended pressure now, feels a little floaty but so far so good. Now just to take pics of the SSRs and sell them!
