Question Help - Broken Rear O2 Sensor

OK guys I need some help. I removed my AR downpipes to go back to stock today and found one of the rear O2 sensors broken. It looks like the wire was getting twisted inside the heat shield as the sensor was getting screwed on or off the DP. Finally the wire must have twisted enough to snap. It came apart at just the slightest touch once the DP was removed.

Now a good day's turned bad.

Of the two rear O2 sensors one has a black wire leading to it and the other a grey wire. It looks like the replacement part is $215 and includes the wire and sensor (I think???). Hard to tell from the parts diagram which one is for the grey vs black.

It appears that you need to press down on the little tab to remove it but there's one on each side. I tried for quite a while but I didn't get i unplugged.

I need some help:
  1. What part number do I need to order black wire sensor?
  2. How do you unplug the sensor wire?
  3. Any advice on whether this is a DIY job and what to watch out for?

Broken Sensor:

Here's where it broke:

Here's the connector:(I need to know how to disconnect this)

You can just run without them (unplug them from the sockets) and plug the holes in the downpipes with some short screws. I do this and the car is running perfectly. With catless downpipes you will get a CEL anyway.

I also need pass an emissions test this week. This is a required to renew my tag. My plan was to go back to stock for a dealer visit and take the emissionos test while stock.

Thanks for the response but I wonder if running without this rear sensor will affect the test.

Ok the black on is the one on the driver side. Call BMW dealer tell them you need after cat o2 sensor driver side. I think is rear bank 1 sensor.
I had the part number 2 days ago i threw out my old sensors. But they will know. to unplug it u pull the two side prongs out lightly and then the other part of the sensor out.

Thanks.

I managed to get it off. It put up quite a fight though...

I'll call around tomorrow to get one of these. I guess the dealership is a good place to start.

Correct me if I am wrong but can't you use Bosch part #16795 or #16796 for the rears? I am not sure which one you need but they should be direct replacements at half the cost.

It looks like Bosch part #16795 is the one I need. I do think it is a direct replacement as you've said.

Thanks.
