Just add 10% to the total price of the car and that should give you a ballpark figure of what the total cost including taxes and license would be.

I'd have them take out MACO & Training and then get the % charge to $500 over invoice, MAX. If they won't, find another dealer that will take it out (to be competitive like Stevens Creek) and either go thru them, or take the quote back to this dealer and ask them to match. You're close! Then ask for free floormats.

It depends. The phrase "$X over invoice" sometimes did or did not include MACO/training when people throw it around here. Dealers will try to shift its meaning around too. However, when people write "KBB invoice" or "Edmunds invoice," it does NOT include MACO. When people fail to mention "MACO" all together, the $X may be in addition to, or inclusive of, MACO (we don't know).

In the SF Bay Area, I think that $500 over KBB/Edmunds invoice is on the very low end of what people typical pay, but is reasonable if you haven't consumed a lot of your dealer's time and you don't expect big premium services (i.e. lots of stuff thrown in). MACO also varies slightly (by a few hundred) based on region. A couple of people may have gotten slightly lower, but they may have had special circumstances - i.e. they got less for their trade-in, they dealer-financed at a higher rate, end-of-the-"month," etc.

I worked with Bruce Chellino at Stevens Creeks BMW. $500 over invoice, that's it. No MACO, No Training, no "dealer prep", etc.

Having said that, I have a friend-in-common connection that helped in the process. So I don't know if I got a 'special' deal or not. I also bought at the end of the month and had a competitive offer from Concord Internet Sales.

Having read so many posts here, there are others who seem to have paid
$500 over invoice too, nothing extra. With a little homework preparation, you should be able to get a good deal too. And that's really all I was looking for - not to get to some ridiculously low number or nickle and dime over everything. We had a very civil conversation and he agreed to the deal. At every level, a very favorable and pleasant experience.

And I haven't even picked it up yet! Estimated docking 4/8, on the "Diamond Rey".

i bought my car from bmw of mountain view...... i paid $5 above invoice

...... invoice price = 38895 and i paid 39000..... also got free mats and a full tank of gas

and i didnt pay any MACO/DAG fees

I've got an offer for $500 over invoice from a bay area dealer on the 325i E90 I'm looking for. I asked him to give me the subtotal before tax to see how much MACO/Training and other things will come out to.
So you say the end of the month is the best time? So I've got two days to make a deal, else wait till next month?

Unless my math is wrong, KBB/Edmunds invoice price on that configuration is actually $38,440 = $560 over invoice?

Not necessarily. I'm thinking each dealership has its own quota interval that may not coincide with the end of each month. You also have no way of knowing when this is or where your dealer is in his "quota." If your offer is for $500 over KBB/Edmunds and that's it, I would just take it. Get the OUT THE DOOR price, and make sure it flies = i.e. use the DMV tax/vehicle reg calculator and tack on <$50 for documentation fee. Good luck.

and here is the edmunds price for my config.

$5 over KBB/Edmunds invoice is under the dealer's invoice price (because they have to pay MACO/training) - they lose money on the immediate transaction. Your sales guy must have been really hard pressed to get one more sale in. I think Mountain View BMW offered me about $1000 over KBB/Edmunds invoice, which I did not accept. as u can c i have a fully loaded 325i..... and not many people want to spend as much when they can get a 330i for almost the same price.....

apparently they had ordered this car for someone else and he changed his mind at the last minute..... this car was lying in the dealership for arnd 2-3 weeks..... and i think they just wanted to sell it quickly.....

i had agreed to pay 39650 for this car, but called back the next day saying i was thinking of getting the 330i..... the SA agreed to give me a $400 off on the car...... i called him back and said that I would sign the documents that very day if he gave me the car for 39k and he agreed..

My personal experience with Stevens Creek sucked

was moving to California and while on a business trip went to them
and was looking for a 330i. I really wanted to have the car for when
me and my family were coming so was willing to go well above
invoice.

The guy tried to make me buy one of the 325s they had on their lot
and he said that he could offer me a good deal only on a 325i that's
already on the lot. If I wanted the 330i which they had only very few,
I had to go $2,000 over invoice. I said thanks and left.

Back in Chicago I got on the internet, got all the Bay area dealers and
started calling them. First one was BMW of San Francisco

and
let me tell you I didn't have to call a second dealer.

I dealt with Danny Andrade and his assistant David. Arranged
everything over the phone, ordered my car back in January and took
delivery two weeks ago (and had the chance to meet them too):

330i
Metallic Paint
ZPP
i Drive/Nav
Auto Trans
Heated Front Seats
Satellite Radio Prep

MSRP: $43,820 Invoice: $40,165

I wrote a cheque for $40,995 ($830 over invoice) + tax (8.25%) + license & registration

Total was $44,760.

The guys were fantastic to deal with, my experience was great,
hassle free, no pushy salesmanship and been very happy with it
and of course the car :rocks:

That's who I went with, this guys been one of the top 3 salesman in the country for the last 4 years. Gave me a good deal and was very courteous when showing the car to us and how everything worked.
You won't get the most rock bottom price but he'll cut you a good deal, mine was $500 over invoice (I've got another thread showing the specs)

In case this helps anyone, I bought my '06 325i at the end of March for $30 over invoice (= invoice price of car + destination charge, no MACO) using the fax attack method (see fightingchance.com).

I ended up getting a low bid from Coast BMW and a price match from BMW of Fremont. Caveats: I used the fax attack at the end of the month and quarter, and I was just looking for a base model 325i -- auto tranny was the only option I wanted -- so these factors probably helped me get the price that I got. The dealer also threw in free floor mats and a full tank of gas.

The whole transaction went smoothly, no complaints, so for what it's worth, anyone looking to buy in the SF Bay area might want to take a look at these two dealers. Hope this is helpful.

Correct, price I wrote was without taxes/license/reg (have corrected
my post). Total with taxes of 8.25%, license & registration was
