Hi,

Anyone on here using these tyres? I need new tyres next month and I was certain that these were the tyres I was going to go for. However, having just been looking at prices and pictures it occurs to me that because the tread isn't symmetrical the tyre will look different on each side of the car. Wouldn't it? Or am I just seeing things and being thick!?

I don't know much about tyres but I know they can be directional. But even looking at pictures of them fitted show the tread different on each side. Look at google images, on one side the tread faces up and on the other side the tread faces down even though the 'line' is on the inside (so they are on the right way). To me this looks as though on the passenger side the tyres would push standing water away from the car but on the drivers side the tyre would push water under the car.

Am I just being stupid? I think this would bother me ha ha. I may have to look at other options with a 'V' tread pattern, any suggestions?

They do look different on each side as you said. I can't really comment on how good/bad they are as I have only had mine on a week and I drive like like Captain Slow anyway. I do know they feel a million times better than my winters though.

Yes they are fitted the way you describe.

I've had a set on an impreza and they work very well. I wore them out in about 8000 miles but it had quite an agressive setup and there was massive amounts of grip.

Great tyres, don't let the tread pattern put you off.

I went for Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 and I'm impressed.

They are very quiet, far smoother and provide more grip than the runflats.

On the tyre rating system(which is the manufacturers own stats) they are an A for wet grip, 69 dB front 70 rear and E for fuel economy is better than most 19 tyres of this profile too.

The Vredestein tyres are only rated as C for wet grip, 67dB which is the lowest I've seen for our sizes and a F for fuel economy.

The Goodyears have a reasonable lip to protect the rim but this does make the wheels look a little smaller.

I paid just over £700 from Camskill for standard 19" sizes.

Ive got Vreds on. Havent done much to test them yet due to the weather but definitely feel like they have great wet grip.

Also, the tread looks great in my opinion!

interesting thread, im looking for tyres to dont no weather to go for these or falkens? oem tyres come as 30 profile on rear and 35 on front. ive been looking for tyres and cant get what i want in a 30 rear only a 35 would this be a problem???

You run the risk of rubbing by going up to '35' on the rear.

Go with either Vreds or Falkens in:

235/35/19 front
265/30/19 rear

thanks for that mate im going to try and get a price of these tomorrow. yeh i was 30s on rear but company i asked didnt have them in the falkens. what falkens are better 452 or 453? the 452 tread looks alot better.

Not tried the 453's,so can't really make a comment,I think the 452's are slowly being phased out

The Vreds are a lot better than the Falkens though

The Yokohama Parada Spec 2 is similar in appearance.

Had these years ago and they were good but noisy and wore out quickly.

They were cheap years ago which isn't the case now.

I remember buying 4 for my Astra GSi turbo for £240 in 215/40x17.

I've been running Vreds on the rears (Ian's old wheels) since the beginning of Feb. I took the car around the Midlands (Derby/Leicester) last week in the snow. My wife took the car from a snowy Midlands to Oxford this weekend. No complaints at all, even on fresh snow on a incline the tyres had enough grip to keep going

Another thumbs up for the Vredestein's over here.. I have done over 50k in my 135i now and gone from the standard Bridgestone RFTS to Goodyear ASY 2's to Vredestein Ultrac Sessantas.
I will now be sticking with the Vredesteins for the remainder of the time I have the car as they are a cracking tyre for the money (especially in the wet) and easily as good as the Goodyears IMO (just 25% cheaper). I have also been caught in the snow on many occasions and had no issues at all.

I picked up some Goodyears a couple months ago too, although in 17" guise.
Very impressed with the wet grip.
The car feels just as good as it does on dry. This was not the case with the Runflats. Car never felt 100% when the road was seriously wet.

I fitted a full set of Ultrac Sessantas just over a month ago and I have to say I've been impressed with them so far. Seem to grip well in the wet. I'd comment on dry grip as well but as it's been a crappy month for weather I don't think we've had a dry road since I've had them on so I can't say yet!

Now I'm not sure what to do!

I'm sure the Vredesteins are great and are no doubt good value, and I'm sure I can get over the odd tread pattern but I'll have to upsize the tyres.

So having priced it up these are my 3 options, as I see it:

Falken FK 453 (in correct 225 and 255 size):
£528.80

Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta (upsized to 235 and 265 size):
£624

Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 (in correct 225 and 255 size):
£690.80

So part of me thinks go for the Falkens, I'm sure they're good tyres, I'm not a racing driver so as long as they are half decent and more confortable than the run flats then worth a go. The other part of me thinks I shouldn't budget on a 335i and go for the Vredesteins as no doubt they will be better. But £100 better? And I'll have to upsize which will mean I'd have to go for 10mm spacers and not 12mm I'd hoped for. Then I think go for the Goodyears, probably the best tyres, in the correct size, without the odd tread pattern but £170 more!

Why do people upsize when going to normal tyres? is it just cause they cant get them in the correct size?

They are not available in the correct size as far as I can see.

The Ultrac Sessante isnt in the correct size and the bigger size offers better wheel protection for the brittle MV4 wheels.

There may be other reasons though I'm not sure

Might just go for the Falkens! The money I'll save will pay for 12mm spacers!

OP, the Goodyears aren't neccessarily the bestctyre out of those 3. I would go for the Vreds hands down. I have had Goodyears before and they felt a bit vague in terms of steering.
