Clutch slip..?

Hi Guys,

I'm gonna sound like a real dumb ass... hear me out.

It's a very long time since I had a car where the clutch gave up on me (maybe I've been lucky)... Last time it happened many moons ago it just went and that was that and the car was towed home..

I've noticed recently something that feels like clutch slip.... Especially in 5th/6th when applying throttle on the motorway... I've also noticed slight judder pulling away when cold...

Is my clutch on the way out?

I'd like to get your concensus before I go off and have my walet emptied!

Thanks

Tarbs

Does the rpm increase faster that your speedo in 5/6 gear? I.e it jumps up the revs fast? When you ask for full torque? Then once you let go it stops and sounds normal? Juddering could also be a clutch fault or dual mass flywheel! Either way the dual mass flywheel is not cheap.
I would take it to an Indy to diagnose it for you and get a quote. Could be expensive.

If the revs pick up but then stabilize - and the speedo comes later: It's clutch slip. 5th and 6th only is where it'd start. If you start getting it in 4th or 3rd you've not long left.

Be gentle with it and you should get several thousand more miles.

DMF and Clutch kit are about £700-800 from bmminiparts last I checked. Labour you're looking at 4 hours I expect.

I'd recommend getting the work done by an indy so you're paying £60-70 an hour labour rather than160 from BMW (Eurgh)

ps. A clutch replacement is a great plus when selling the car so keep any documentation / invoiced around the working having been done

......But it might not be the clutch! Fingers crossed eh
