Limited Power/Revs When Cold ?
I had never noticed that the car would either limit te revs/power when it was cold until this morning when I went to pull out and not a lot happened.
The car seemed to be limitng the revs to about 2500rpm and had reduced power, It was really wierd the more you put your foot further down and the revs stayed at the same level. I presume this is normal and it was only as my car had not warmed up due to the chilly morning? |

They dont limit power when cold. I have never thrashed my car from but bar once which i had to for an emergency, No limiting of power.
M cars have the illuminated dash to remind you not to thrash tyo high revs from cold. Non M cars can be doughnutted off your driveway at 6am if needed be.

Carl, I hope no one doughnuts their car off the driveway in the morning!!
Sounds like somethings up as limiting to 2.5k revs is not normal... |

MAF failure? Could limit the reving or breathing of the engine. Any VW owner will tell you this is a common failure

It almost feels as though it is running a couple of cylinders short. I keep meaning to book it in the garage, but my dealer is so sh!te, I just know it will end up coming back with more faults Either that or they will claim 'no fault found!' like they have with every other problem I have taken the car in with! I suspected on mine it could be a problem with the injectors, as I know the 325i has had an injector re-call. Mine has not been in to have it done yet. When/If you find out the answer I will be interested to know! |

Is that not a 'limp home' mode, i.e it limits your rev's / engine work so no futher damage can be done?
My Mondy ST used to go in limp home mode all the time, usually when something was broke but then it was a bag of sh...!

I dont thrash my car from cold. its only ever happened once. Because i had to.
It could be a form of limp home mode, but why would it happen in the morning when cold? either that or what brian said, MAF sensor failure? Does it clear once warm?

I only noticed it because there is a roundabout thats really busy about half a mile from my house and I tried to pull out as normal and it felt really flat so i tried putting accelerating when doing 30 and the car acted oddly by not letting the revs build.
I left work tonight and tried the same cold and it felt flat, I gave it a run for 15 min to make sure it was really warm and it seems to be normal. I am sure it was not the DTC/DSC I know what that feels like Thanks for your comments guys, I will keep an eye on it |

Never happened mate...revving it past 2.5k is quite common in the morning to et away from traffic for me. Better have it checked out; could be a problem on the Vanos. Had a problem with with my old M3 with the same problem, and had to replace one of the inlet solenoid. Could be something as simple as plugs...

It does it every day now and most evenings if it is parked outside work and not driven during the day. You can literally floor it in first gear and it would hold the revs right down and give about 20% power, and by the time I have driven to the end of my estate, it releases the power instantly and then drives normally?! stange beast! |

I never go over 3k and half throttle till the oil/water temp is up to normal in any of my cars, never have...... oh unless it's a rental car, they have specially uprated engines that mean they can be redlined from cold
