Standard Stereo - Highs are too loud???
I tested both the standard, and then the Logic 7 stereos. IMO the standard was fine for what I needed.
Does anyone else find that the highs are too loud with the standard system? In other words, it seems like the sound it WAY trebled out. WTF!

Treble trouble
Quote:
I assume that by "standard" you mean the US-spec base audio system (since you're in Boston). Oddly enough, I find that the treble is way low on my 2008 328i and I have to take it up to +3 or +4. What I also found is that the system, with bass and treble at zero, has a classic "BBC dip", the sound that the Rogers LS5 is famous for. Also known as the smily face frequency response, it has boosted lows and highs, leaving the mids suppressed. Check your bass setting and see if it helps to lower it. I find the audio system in this car to be absolutely atrocious for many reasons - lifeless highs, over-boosted and boomy bass, huge hole in the 250-600 Hz range and a midrange that is so colored and muddy that it boggles the mind. There is simply no excuse for this in any car, let alone a car with as high a level of content as an E90. I knew this going in, so it's something I accepted and hope to improve sometime down the road. I can't help but shake my head every time I turn the system on, however. My hearing is very good and audio is a hobby so I tend to be troubled by bad sound. Regards, Adnan |

I have a convertible. Open the top and there are basically no highs. Mess with your equalization settings and I am sure you will be happy with the results!

when i first got my car i noticed that too. so tweak your EQ and cut the highs. I have a walkman that i use and it also helps to EQ in there.

Thanks for the responses guys. Yea, I am used to the system in my Audi, and have only had the bimmer for a day. So maybe it will take some getting used to.
I have tried messing with just about every bass/treble combo there is, and still cannot get it right. Healey3000: Good point. High highs, and punchy lows - but the midrange is something to be desired. So what would you guys suggest? To turn the treble all the way down??? I have tried that, and it still does not sound right. Also, is there another setting in the audio menu other than the bass and treble to mess with? (Remember, I dont have the Logic 7) Thanks

i also found turning down the speed sensitivity of the stereo to help. it may be that or i just got used to how it sounds or the speakers have settled or my MP3 player's EQ made it sound better. i hope that helps.

So given the fact that I dont have an EQ - I really did the only thing I could to improve the sound on the standard system. (after trying EVERYTHING!)
I put the fader all the way to the back. So most of the sound is coming from the rear speakers. I was shocked, but it sounds much better then the unbearable highs & no mid range of the front speakers.

If you have the hi-fi option your basicly screwed, sorry to say. A complete overhaul is your basic option and even then the highs come crashing off the windows (at least that was the case with me). I have swapped the tweeters, the mids and am waiting for the subs to arrive, I had to put an amp in and an EQ. After all of that and hours of tuning by ear I have found that I still need to go get and RTA to figure WTF with the highs. I could have lived with Logic 7 (which I still find disappointing) but the 'hi-fi' is worse than my wife's camry and I am NOT joking.
It's always a bad sign when a music lover drives his car without music. But if you invest some money and time you will get a good system, which goes with all cars... Good luck. |

At first I thought it was the iPod connector. Not the case.
Have to say that it makes a world of difference with all the windows down. Problem solved! (Except in the wintertime, LOL) So this prevents the tweeters from crashing off the windows. And I think thats exactly what the problem was. Word
