Need help with suspension

My front suspension makes a pounding noise even over small potholes.
Do you think i need to change the springs, the struts or both?
Please help I drive 2006 330xi with stock suspension.

The front suspension if there is a bang would probably be a blown strut and there would be no reason to change the spring, but changing the strut you would see if the spring is damaged, but probably not!

Yea it is a bang everytime i hit even a small pothole or anything uneven on the road.
Also I saw yesterday my driver side is lower than the passanger side, it has to be the strut blown.
Do you think that I need to do an aligment after i change the struts?

could be a worn out upper strut mount, they have bearings in them that wear out and create a banging noise when hitting bumps.

From reading in the all-wheel drive forum (and my own experience), this is a normal "feature" of the xi suspension. If it's that bad, change your suspension to an aftermarket solution.
