My car throws the code for HPFP and BMW won't replace it because it is out of extended warranty, by 4000 miles. It's the 2008 N54 335XI. If I start the car a second time, the check engine light doesn't come on and I just rev up for a minute, then it drives fine. In the morning though, it is rough...I think if the engine is warm, it isn't so bad. Could a connector attached to the HPFP contain oil that would throw the code? I know my oil has been leaking. Where is the HPFP located?

find a good indy and have them fix it for cheap instead of the stealership folks...call it a day.

The HPFP is located toward the front of the engine, drivers side, under the air filter box. It is kinda hard to see with the air filter box installed.

Oil leaks from above tend to be from the valve cover gasket or the oil filter housing gasket. Neither of these are prone to leaking onto the HPFP.

Call BMW USA Corporate... and explain the situation. Tell them that you have felt the hesitation/limp/hard cold start for a long time, but did not report it to them until now. Also, look back at all your service records... if you can find 1 notation of "customer says car is hard to start" "customer says car went into limp mode" or anything that you can now attribute to the HPFP, you are golden. If you are professional, polite, and persistent, you will get at least a "good will" credit. They may make you wait a bit to see if you'll give in and just go fix it yourself. My a/c condenser went out at 104k, but I had complained in notes that "car did not cool very well" prior to 100k, so BMW offered to pay for half the cost. It took them 2 weeks to get back to me and I had already fixed it (100 degrees in DC summer), but lesson learned.

I wonder if mine is bad as well? The hpfp. My CEL comes on during aggressive acceleration and then into limp mode. And Next time I start car CEL is off. I ran OBD once whennit was on. And it came up with EGR valve faulty? Any ideas ?
