Is a 300 HP engine possible in an otherwise completely stock 2006 330I?
Hi, I am new here.
At least the above is the story I am being fed looking at a stock 2006 330I. Car has 93 K kms and looks in great shape. Guy is second owner and found out by trying to exchange oil filter for the first time, it did not fit. SO the mechanic checked the the serial number on the car and it showed a non-stock 300 HP engine, is it possible? Could it have been a special order vehicle? Thanks for your input. I love the car and would love to buy it, but am hesitant having learned about the above issue. Although the extra HP is not being reflected in the asking price... |

Check this out also and see what the VIN decoder says about your car.

picture would clear things up.
but the only 300hp engine would be the one from the 335, which uses the same oil filter. so...

There is a lot of confusion with the aftermarket part# for the oil filters on E90 330i's I've ran into this before at my shop. The aftermarket companies did not bother to update the catalogues for the 06 330i's assuming it was the same part# as an E46 330i/ci. But its completely different, order an oil filter for a 335i it will fit.
So no, its not a 300hp naturally aspirated I6 secret engine, its a full of shit mechanic.

Interesting, what some people believe or want to believe. So just to clarify there are no 330Is out there running around with 300 HP (M-type engines)... good to know. Threw this info back at the seller, will see what he says.
Thanks everyone! |

Let me throw it back at you guys then. How much would you offer for it, keeping in mind that we are in Canada here, so prolly an extra 1 or 2000$ on top of US prices.
Thanks! |

That's about what I paid for mine back in 2009, but mine had Navigation and Logic7 sound, etc.

Prices in Canada are usually more than just $1-$2k more than US.
That is a good price compared to other options from Vancouver. http://vancouver.craigslist.ca/searc...inAsk=&maxAsk= I see it has sport package. Does it have the following: - Leather - iDrive - Premium - iPod - Phone integration? Only thoughts I have: - I bought my 2006 330i in 2008. At the time I saved about $5-$8k by not getting the 335i. - If I was to do it again, I would consider spending the extra, and getting a 335i! ;-) - The car is great. Handles like a dream, but engine upgrades are virtually non-existent on the 330i |

Don't think it has these two:
iDrive - Premium What does premium entail anyways? It was a bit dirty, but a good cleanup would do wonders I think. Thanks for your insight. |

Premium package of universal garage door opener, auto-dimming mirror, lumbar support, compass mirror, Harman/Kardon sound system and Dakota leather, $4,200 iDrive isn't necessary. A garmin GPS works better. For many functions, it is quicker not having iDrive (i.e. changing audio source etc). I like mine and it came with it 2nd hand. But this is the N52 forum: Nice engine, revs great. Others can confirm, but it is the most powerful non-M non-FI 6cyl that BMW offers. ;-) |
