What are your suggestions for failed DME?

Looks like the JB4 led to my car dying. Took it to the shop to get looked at and I have been told that the software ruined the DME at the minimum. Even after removing the JB4 the car wont communicate with the DME and wont clear any codes pertaining to those faults. LUCKY ME! Looks like the car is going to be sitting around for a while....

Has this happened to anyone else or am I just on an unlucky streak?

the only time we have seen DME issues associated with JB4 is where connections were incorrect, faulty, or the install/removal or "tweak" was done with the battery connected. It's a very reliable piggy-back tune and generally very safe.

I highly doubt any tune will cause permanent hardware damage. I've seen too many times shops don't know what the cause is so they blame the "software". Exactly what is wrong with your car? What year? There have been a few DME failures lately, it is starting to look like the new HPFP for those build dates.

typical shop blaming the tune bc they are incompetent of truely diagnosing how it happened

lol your wrong.

what year is your car though?

jb4 and proceed isnt the usual software "shops" work with.. it manipulates the ecu signals, it does not rewrite them.. check the fuse in there too, that is something know to happen-- $ says thats what it is unless you have an 07 in which case it maybe part of that failed diode tsb -- which happened to my car

The jb4 is passive and can't hurt anything. Your shop is probably clueless. I'd get the car out of there before they run up a huge bill on your tab for what should be a 5 min fix. Send bms photos of your wiring and they should be able to point you in the right direction.

Sounds to me like a bunch of prongs were bent during install or reversed wiring.

Indeed - get your car out of there and find a shop that knows tuned N54s.

Your shop doesn't know enough to continue proper diagnosis. If you need to remove the JB4 physically for them to continue, then do so. Otherwise I've only had to put the JB4 into Map 0 / passthrough to continue communications.

My DME went out and took the 6 injectors and 6 coils with it....... Dealer said it was uncommon but they have seen it before.
I had my jb4 installed when this happened and was still able to read codes.
I don't blame the jb4...... Sounds like the DME is bad

User Install Error -- You probably connected the wires wrong & fried your DME. Don't blame a proven product for your mistakes. Good, quality vendors suffer from your quick judgement that there's something wrong with the product.

ur shop is a bunch of fucking ass clowns that cant follow directions.

directions so fucking simple that most people install jb4 by themselves.

ps, i think its fucking hilarious that you assumed automatically that jb4 destroyed your car.

Does sound odd when there are 10,000 or so units on the streets. As said above get it to a different shop.

I installed mine with the harness flipped when I first got it accidentally, and although it wouldn't start and the wipers were going like mad, there was no damage.

Don't think its the piggy back man.

Change the title of the thread to "I was careless and fried my DME"

Don't blame the JB4 for your mistakes.

i mixed my tires (non run flats in rear) and at a gas station a cute chick noticed my bad ass ET streets in the rear and started asking about my car We ended up going for a drink and i went home with her. In the morning i left her place and got in a wreck bcuz the front tires felt like they were floating when i raced a street bike from a red light. It was a little wet out. Anyway the cars in the shop, i got a ticket for reckless driving and my wife found out about the girl bcuz she wrote "call me" in lipstick on my dash board. I must have been pretty drunk.

So yea, OP i wouldnt do it
