Group discount~~~ removing ugly amber thingy...
To all who can't afford Euro headlight but want to remove the orange amber thingy in their e90 headlight.
I am not sure if any shop would do this ..... I am thinking bringing my car to a shop to remove the ugly amber refelector thingy in our e90 headlights.... they called me and said bring my car in.. they said they wanna take a look at it first before they start work.... it's not 100% guaranteed that they can do this... and I am not sure what it will look like without the amber thingy.. but I can tell you it will be 10000 x times better than now... so if anyone willing to do this with me.... we can book appointment.. and have discounts together.... I was going to do this myself.. but I realized BMW will be more complicated than JDM cars.. also, it wont cost as much I think..... I am expecting probably around $80-120..... |

I must admit that it sounds super-tempting, and I am sure we all appreciate the effort you put in. However, I think the shop in question was assuming that BMW gets the glue/adhesive/magic-flipping-invincible-sticky-stuff for it's headlamp assembly from the same place as Honda... Sufficed to say, not the case...

i don't want to burst any bubbles; but this isn't likely going to work. longtran or ksfrogman (can't remember) tried taking one of these apart and removing the amber reflector, and it wasn't pretty, or easy. i don't think it ever went back together properly- and if you figure, these things are over a grand US each to replace (xenon, adaptive, at least); that's a lot of money to gamble with.
i would love to hear that it worked, and would be one of the first to line up to get the horrid looking amber reflectors removed, but i think the way they're designed, they were not meant to be opened. having said that, good luck and keep us posted

^ both longtran and ksfrogman have tried, long tried it on a pair of used halogens and succeeded, but he said that it was a PITA. And given that there are reported incidences of condensation in the headlights from members that have not touched their headlgihts, I really wouldn't risk opening up the headlights
if they said they can do it for that quoted price AND guanrantee that no condensation would result from the mod, go for it

hey canucklion-
you've obviously been following this mod a bit more attentively than i have i've been away from the forums for a while because of my job. do you know if anyone has sourced a european dealership, or otherwise, to just buy new clear cornered euro-spec xenon's? i happen to find myself in the uk on work and wouldn't mind bringing home a new pair if the price is right. cheers!

hey Paullo, sorry for the late reply,
I believe Tyler, aka ADHD has a contact in Germany that can get Euro headlights for a reasonable price, perhaps PM ADHD to see if he can provide you with the contact info? Quote:
