Young girl on the outside, old man on the inside. I get a lot of looks from old men in Buick's trying to be my friend. I'm not sure if they're looking at me or my car...

For the guys running DPs:
- What brand are you using?
- Catted or catless?
- How bad is the smell?
- Are you running a tune or the BMS DP to fix the CEL for the secondary 02's?
- Did you DIY install or have it done?
- Is it a worthwhile mod?

TIA, appreciate the feedback. So many dang threads in the turbo tuning section and I have been reading on DPs for a few years now. Would also like to meet up with someone that has them, I think Blaster would prob be closest as you live close by.

i'm not familiar with 335i's but i had a Volvo 940 Turbo (1 cat) and installed an exhaust from the downpipe back, no cat. i hated it. smelled awful and it wasn't worth it to me. elvis is catless in his E46 M3 and he doesn't mind. do 335i's have more than 1 cat like WRX's and STi's? if so, i'd get rid of all the secondary cats and have a high flow 3" cat after the downpipe.

I think I'm going to Chicago. I'd rather not get stuck in the rain out there.
I'll be at Super Car Saturday and the 1/2 mile shoot out!

Hey Brandon,

I have been running AR catless DP for about a year with good results. To save money you could go with either BMS or VSRF too. I'd definitely recommend going catless if you are replacing your downpipes. Smell is barely noticeable as long as you keep your secondary cats intact. I have a JB4 so autoclear feature eliminates the CEL without downpipe fix. I had Autowerks do the install but many others have done it themselves with jack stands. Definitely not easy but doable. It is a worthwhile mod especially if you have a tune.

You are welcome to check out my car anytime you want just let me know.

- What brand are you using? BMS
- Catted or catless? catless
- How bad is the smell? 335 has primary and secondary cats. DP will replace the primary cats and it barely smells. All the cars I've owned were catted. This one is actually barely noticible
- Are you running a tune or the BMS DP to fix the CEL for the secondary 02's? just using the auto clear function on JB4.
- Did you DIY install or have it done? I got it installed for $250 at a local shop
- Is it a worthwhile mod? Yes. Personally, I tell people to do DP's before IC

Did your car have DPs down when you gave me a ride at that tint shop last fall? I'm assuming so if you say a year now. Would be nice to compare side by side since I remember your car was fast but thought it was just the tune, thinking of maybe adding them this summer.

If anyone brings their DP car tomorrow I'd love to feel the difference.

If it's pouring, I might bail though.

When you rode in my car last year it had JB4, downpipes, and FMIC. If your car is tuned DP are worth about 20 HP. I've upgraded my tune and turbos since then but you are welcome to line up and compare sometime

Thanks a lot Dan, Tim, and Dex for the replies!

I've had catless DPs before, even complete straight through exhausts, on prior cars so glad to hear it's not bad smell wise. I'd go the VRSF route and self-install, doesn't look bad and I have air tools for some of the steps to help release troublesome bolts.

Seems like for about $300 one can pickup a JB4 gen4 in the classifieds. So for $200 more over the BMS DP fix. I'm going to take Tim up on his offer here soon and will save the JB discussion for then, need to do some additional reading on my part as well.

Does anyone have a spare set of wheels/tires I can use for a few minutes to try to figure out a steering wobble that has eluded diagnosis? I'm going bonkers trying to solve this. My car came with 17" wheels, so 17" or larger would be best, but I'm open to suggestions. I'm in Ann Arbor.

could be any number of things.
  • Make sure wheels and tires are balanced
  • How old are rotors and pads?
  • How old are bearings?
  • Slop in steering
  • Alignment
  • Old ball joints

Have you been before? I'm interested but think I'd be hitting limp mode since I don't have an oil cooler (10/06 build).

never tracked before. the beginner class are all paced laps and no passing. just about learning the track and how to drive.

and my mistake, it's HPDE - High Performance Driver Education. Not HDPE - High Density Polyethylene.
