Let's Talk Endlinks

I recently installed some ST coilovers with a friend on my FBO e92. Possibly my favorite mod to date) My car is lowered about 1.5 inches in the front. There are a couple of strange noises on occasion I think are coming from my sway bar binding and the car pulls left and right depending on load and binding. My car has 48k miles and the endlinks need to be replaced.

My questions are:
1) Will new stock endlinks resolve my issues or do I need adjustable endlinks?

2) Why do many 335i with ST/KW's not need adjustable endlinks?

2) If I need adjustable endlinks, which ones and what length should I get? I know they need to be stock (11.5 inches) or longer but if I go adjustable I don't want to get some that get noisy or are weak. I've heard bad things about endlinks that use heim joints. Powergrid told me any adjustable links that expand over an inch will make noise after a while and are weak. Others have said the HPA endlinks are the best.

What do you guys thinks?

It all depends on how low your car is. The Power Grid and HPA ones are very solid. After I swapped out all my original suspension bits with M3 ones, I also added adjustable end links. Every time I'd turn into a mall entrance I'd hear a clunk. Turned out I needed longer end links so I swapped them out immediately.

I have the clunk and pull. Mine are too short. How low are dropped and how long are your endlinks? Are you an "I" or "xi"? I guess the xi guys are 13.5 stock while the c guys are 11.5.

I'm thinking about getting 12 or 12.5 powergrids. As most cars require only 1.25 additional length.

I'm not completely slammed but lowered at least 1.5" if not a tad more than that. My car is a diesel so it's RWD. I can't remember exactly what length I changed to but these were maxed to the limit and I sold them to go longer:

I'm lowered about 1.5 inches as well. I almost got the hotchkis sway bar kit with endlinks and I'm glad I didn't. I believe they only adjust a 1/2 inch. I'm thinking at least 1 size longer than the standard 11.5 size. With the link you sent I'm thinking 10-75mm.

I'm confused,I have the FK silver line x coil over that came with 8" end link ! I was never able nor the mechanic to install the stock ones since they would interfere with lower arm(way too long)! One of them already ( boot) sheared so I found 8,5" at my local car parts! I want to upgrade as well to hpa adjustable link but don't know which one to buy ( what length ) ????
My car is a 2011 335d msport lowered by at least 1,5"

Send Harold from HPA a private message. I'm guessing 10M-90.

I just ordered my endlinks yesterday. My understanding is they need to be longer, not shorter. The question is, how much longer.? I chose 11.75 inches that adjusts to 12.25 inches. I hate to say it, but I'm kind of guessing based on how low my car is. I will keep you posted on how it works out.

No, because they're not long enough as noted. That's why your sway bar is binding right now. Very bad for handling.

I have these Powergrid ones as well, very solid product. Give VAC a call or email, they'll suggest the correct length.

My understanding is the lower your drop the longer the endlinks need to be. My car is dropped 1.5-2 inches and I went with the 10-90mm set from vac. They are 12 inches adjusted to 14 inches if I'm not mistaken.

No!
I actually spoke with Dave at FK and he told me the ones the silver line x has 8,5" compare to 11,5" stock , the lower you go the shorter end link you need!
I know I tried it my self installing the stock ones with the FK coil and it could never fit ! Had to use the ones he send me and I just bought adjustable ones from hpa 8,5"
My car is 335d 2011 with FK silver line x drop to almost lowest setting

totally false, lower = longer and higher = shorter I have confirmed this by Harold at HPA abs have done this. Your sway bar should have no load on it at ride height. So with your car at ride height (on rack or all 4 corners on rhino ramps) the end-link should slide right into the sway-bar. If you shorten the end-links when you drop it will load the sway bar when it shouldn't be, loaf should only occur at a turn ECT.

The only reason why the FK links are shorter is because FK has changed the location of the endlink tabs on the housing(shorter strut body perhaps?).

When a vehicle is lowered, longer links should be used to gain back the lost geometry.

How can you tell if you need longer end links? What is the symptom of sway bar bind? Since installing my KW 's I get an occasional clunk going over a speed bump too fast or up a steep driveway too fast but I thought that could be my GC camber plates. My car is lowered about an inch from sport susp ride height.

Our links don't necessarily fix any bind in the bar, but the added adjustments could solve a bind issue. We recommend these to fix the anti roll bar geometry so one gets maximum affect from their anti roll bar after the vehicle has been lowered and the anti roll bar becomes slightly less affective.

My slammed-city with left/right binding and clucking noise was solved with Mayle HD non-adjustable links.
