Alarm retrofit kit for MY 2009 3/09+ and 2010 - yes it exists!

Please see this post from www.m3post.com that discusses the alarm retrofit kit sold in Europe. Apparently BMW NA has no plans currently to sell this part, but hopefully this will change soon.

The kit contains the wiring harness and all parts required. For sedans and verts with premium package and comfort access this should be a moderately easy install, but coupes may require modification to the headliner (yikes!). Non comfort access cars will require a mod to the driver door locking system.

http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthr...=228062&page=6

The part # is 65120399635

Price is ~$350.

The 335i I'm expecting to receive has Premium and Comfort access so I'm optimistic. I'm going to wait until I take delivery to make certain it has the mirror with LED.

Wondering is anyone has experience with this retrofit kit?

Oh, when I made the decision to purchase a new car I was expecting to order it as I knew about the alarm issue. I learned about the $2500 holiday rebate last week and naturally wanted to take advantage of it. No time to order a car and have it here by 1/4/2010 when the rebate ends.

In searching for cars the dealer located 2 incoming that are an exact match for what I wanted, except the flippin' alarm! As a matter of fact I asked them to do a search in 3 colors with only premium, sport (or M3 sport), auto and the alarm. Found very few cars in the SE region (I recall about 8 cars) on the ground or incoming and I quickly realized I would have to either sacrifice my color/option selection, pay more for a car that was loaded with stuff I didn't want or get the exact car without the alarm. I went for the exact car without the alarm (its on its way to the dealer this week). Hence the reason for the above post.

I must say I'm really disappointed that BMW decided to remove the prewire and not offer the retrofit kit stateside. Sometimes big corps make foolish decisions and I think this is one of them. I suppose the poor economy and weak US dollar forced them to take steps to value engineer the cars. I wonder what else they value engineered out?

12/7/10 update - Dealer with the first car changed their mind at the last minute and canceled the trade. Good news is that I'm getting a car with more equipment (Nav and M Sport) for $25/mo more in the lease payment. Only thing with this car is it doesn't have comfort access so I'll need the auxiliary cable with the kit. Expect to have the car this weekend. It just arrived at the port today.

BTW, checked with my dealer and they told me they cannot tell me 100% that they can activate the retrofit installed alarm. They say they'll try, but want me to know up front that it may not be accessible via DCS on the 2010 since other electronics have changed from the 2009 models (specifically the stereo).

I also bought a 2010 328 w/o the alarm and now want it. I took this Part number to the local BMW here in Germany and the kit came out to be 280$ Dollars or 189 Euros. I have an appointment on 17 Dec for an inspection so see if it is pre-wired (Germans have procedures they have to go threw before they even look at your car). I plan on gettign the kit installed and will keep you posted.

Does your car have Comfort Access? if not, you'll also need the Auxiliary Cable (T) from the instruction sheet. Can you possibly get me the part number for the Auxiliary cable from your dealer?

Thx.

I don't know anyone who has installed one yet.

One thing that concerns me is my dealer shop foreman told me he may not be able to program it via the DCS system (or whatever its called). He's not sure the option is there for the US 2010 cars since the alarm software is factory loaded now. He's willing to try, but told me I may be SOL.

I haven't bought the kit yet because I'm waiting on a couple other forum posters to report back their results. I know of one who is still waiting for his kit to arrive from Europe.

OK, So i just got the kit installed and IT DOES WORK like it just came from the factory with the option... But the cost in dollars from Euros with the conversion fees etc.. came to 735$. Once the kit was installed, they completed the software update and now the clownnose blinks etc.. job well done.

Looking back, I should have just got that option and could have saved a couple of bucks..

If anyone tries this in the states and has issues and or needs a part you can get, I will be here til AUG of this year. So great find and enjoy..

Sounds like you let the dealer install the kit? Is that why it was so expensive? US customers will likely have to self install as 2 x local dealers told me they cannot install the kit unless its sold through BMW NA.

Were you able to get me the part # of the auxiliary cable???

Lucky for me I have family that lives near Dusseldorf so they can buy and ship to me. I'm just not convinced I'm going to bother. It look like an easy install except for the headliner bit. Thats got me a bit concerned.

Any chance you can get me the accessory cable part #? its the extra cable required for cars without CA. Thanks.

I'd ask my family in Germany, but they are so busy it may take a month to get an answer.

I am going to the dealer in the morning to get the P/N for ya. I will also ask about what other parts that they had to order to get the system to work if any were needed.

One point to mention...I noticed today that when I press the trunk button on the key fob, that my trunk now does not pop open...but instead the alarm goes off..hummm..

Comments?

Well, the PANIC mode with the alarm system is to press and hold the trunk release button on the FOB. Are you holding it for longer than a second or two?

I had the same problem - held the trunk button and the alarm would just go off. try pressing the trunk button for only two seconds and then releasing, and upon release, the trunk should open.

Press trunk button one second to open trunk. Press trunk button 3 seconds to activate Panic on alarm. Thats what the manual says. Maybe they screwed up programming the alarm.

I went with the 'fake' alarm emulation that comes with the remotekey+ module.
It chirps and blinks the LED plus adds some comfort features and was an easy
install on my 05/09 build date 328i
