Air Intakes advice

I just bought a 2007 335i w/ sport package and I am looking to do a few mods. One I am considering is an intake. I am looking for one that is under $250ish adds a nice sound and will add some hp over the stock one.
Any advice in this area or maybe one you have added to your car and love would be appreciated.
Thanks!!

Does the BMS intake only have a noticeable sound difference during quick acceleration or can you notice it even during moderate acceleration?
Thanks again for the advice!

+1 for BMS DCI. Nice sound when you're pushing the car a little and better throttle response (placebo?).

OP....save your $$ and get a JB3 instead...more bang for your buck...get the intake later if you really want, but the gains are marginal compared to the JB3 or other tune

Start with the JB3 then go with an intake. The intake is worthwhile with the tune but not alone. I would do the aFe Dual Cone Intake or if you are on a budget, then the BMS CAI.

I was looking into getting the JB+ along with the intake already. I don't want to push the car too hard to where I have to change out turbos or start having engine problems. With the amount of extra hp JB3 adds (I am guessing through increased boost) over JB+ is there anything else I would need to do to fortify the engine after adding that much extra boost? Also is the JB3 really worth that much more than the JB+?
Thanks again!

Get JB3 + BMS intake, you will love it. And you wont have any problems (most likely)

Seeing that you are in Socal, you won't even be able to get higher than 91 octane....so no more than 50% on your JB+ or Map 3 on JB3...which would give you roughly the same gains (I am no pro in these matters so take everything with a grain of salt ). The JB3 will utilize other mods (such as an air intake) better though

Only way around 91 octane in Cali is finding a higher octane gas station or going Meth.

JB+ at 100% still doesn't hold it's own against a Jb3 Map 3 (esp now with the 2.0 maps)

higher than 91 is recommended but not required

there are those who run map 5 on 91 w/o problems.

but map 3 is more than enough for a DD

but the op doesn't seem to 'need' the power, so a Jb+ should be enough for him.

FYI, a Jb3 is prly 'better' for your car than a Jb+ as it does a lot more in stuff I'm too lazy to list

search in the turbo section

JB3 is the best bang for your buck, then if you are looking for some great sound from your BMW get a performance exhaust. GL

Thanks for the feedback guys! One more question what makes the PNP version much easier to install then the pinout? Do you have to splice wires to install the pinout or something?

Lol maybe... Well several tuners say a DCI is a no no without a tune.

We dyno'd several combinations...

DCI TUNE = GAIN
DCI NO TUNE = LOSS
STOCK BOX TUNE = GAIN

It really comes down to what you're trying to do with the car. The JB+ is a more conservative tune which some people do prefer. However, the JB3 is going to give you a lot more gains. The difference between the pin out and the plug and play is night and day.

Pin out - you would have to pin each individual wire during the install

PNP -much easier to install that will save you time

I'll send you a PM with more details!

This is exactly what I did (JB3 + aFe DCI) and I love it...great sound and great power...plus I unplugged the exhaust in the back and it sounds much better....a better humm and you can hear the difference. It gives your car a better sound without spending 1K on exhaust for 10hp gain. Soon will be adding ar catless downpipes and intercooler...but again if you're on a budget, do things overtime...enjoy each mod for a bit before you're able to do the next mod. Plus it feels like a new car every couple months (or however long you wait)
