no need to check vin, does your registration/insurance say "sulev? There's also a sticker on your hood that should say "sulev". If it's sulev then it's n51 with 3 stage, ulev is n52 with no 3 stage

I think it's for 09 only? Im not sure because I know that half of 09 is n52 and the other half is n51. There's no difference really, just compression ratio, same block, same head. BMW put the 3stage in n51 to keep the same power output as the n52 but giving the n51 better emissions. With a good tune, the n51 will actually end up costing less than an n52 because n51 already comes with the 3stage, where the n52 needs to retrofit it. Sooo n51 ftw!
