this is not a problem

aggressive brake pads squeek. they are not warmed up to operation temperature and will squeak.

even the stock m3 zcp brakes squeeked due to the more aggressive pad as well as the cross drilled rotors.

you guys should hear the pfc 01s on my e46 m3 when they aren't warmed up.

i am assuming the brake pads stock are somewhat aggressive, although I have not had an issue, but with a high horsepower car, id prefer a more aggressive brake pad.

My problem started about 2 months ago - I have 12,000 miles on my 335 sedan. I took it in - tech couldn't duplicate. Then it got worse. Took it back in. Tech said "the performance brakes on the BMW are second only to Porsche and BMW won't do anything about it until the pads get below a certain thickness...". Since then, the problem has gotten so bad that I cringe every time I push the accelerator.

If I take it back in, I'm telling them to keep the car until it's fixed.

I had my pads replaced at all four corners less than 1,000 miles ago and it still squeaks.

From what I have read over the months, it is a combination of the brake wear sensors and the disc/rotor. Did you also have the wear sensors replaced? I am replacing my pads and wear sensors today, and hope to get rid of the problem at least for a year or so.

SUBJECT
Brake Squeal from Pad Wear Sensor

MODEL
E90, E91, E92, E93 (3 Series)

SITUATION
Depending on the driving conditions, the occasional brake squeak and/or squeal is normal. The condition listed in this bulletin occurs during all light to moderate brake applications and is caused by contact between the brake pad wear sensor and the brake rotor/disc. This situation can occur on the front or rear axle brakes.

CAUSE
The geometry of the brake wear sensor, combined with individual driving habits, can result in a particular wear pattern which causes a squeaking and/or squealing noise whenever the brakes are applied with light to moderate force.

The only issue with this service bulletin is that it says it occurs when braking, which it does not.

I know, but it is the same root cause, don't take the TSB as 100% inclusive. The noise on my car was when I start from a stop, up to almost 20mph, only after the brakes were warm. It is the brake wear sensor hitting the rotor/disc. I replaced the sensors and put some low dust pads on yesterday. The noise is gone.

The noise was quite annoying/irritating and it got slightly worse with more moles (both in terms of volume and duration).

ditto, I did and guess what? The problem's gone

FYI the tech claimed the brakes were sticking, nothing more and nothing less.

wow guys- this thread is a relief. This certainly is extremely annoying and embarrasing (at least for me)- it has been driving me crazy! I took it to the dealership at least 3 times and they couldn't reproduce!! Most probably since the brakes weren't hot.

Just posted a thread on this.....I guess I should've used first....

I had the same thing happened to my car a while back ago. I mainly noticed the squeakiness when i am coming in and out of the garage. I brought my car to the dealership and they replaced the rear pads and a sensor without any hassle. They said the noise was coming from one of the rear brakes. Til this day, I haven't really noticed any more squeaky sounds. FYI.

Mine squeaks soooo loud and it bugs the crap out of me. I adore my car, but you'd think that BMW would use breaks that don't squeak

I have started getting a rare "eeeek..........eeeeek.........eeeeek...." very high pitch but low volume sound at low speeds with brakes not pressed on hot days. Will see what dealer does to fix it. Tempted to see if they would install aftermarket pads for free -- doubt it.

Yep - sensors and rotor due to abnormal wear pattern (I think it happens faster the more stop and go driving you do).

I replaced my sensors, and put on aftermarket pads at the same time. The noise is now gone, which I had for a year. The noise got louder over time, and would only happen after the brakes were warm.

I can notice this sound only when I'm in a covered parking deck. First I thought it was my tires squealing but I guess it's my brakes. Is it normal for the sound to happen even when I'm not pressing the brakes?

Yes. The sound happened for me after I released the brakes. It was the brake wear sensor hitting the rotor due to an irregular wear pattern. It started to happend to me at 6000 miles and I didn't take care of it until 10000 miles. The sound got louder and louder until fixed.
