Weather tech mats work great at covering a lot of area. I run thes in the winter and stock in the summer. If you do get salts on your mats; I take them inside and use a carpet cleaner, then run them over with a Dyson.
You can find weather tech in just about every auto mag. Los

Update on the salt:
I got rid of the salt by pouring the Simoniz salt remover into a little bowl; then using a toothbrush i would dip the toothbrush into the salt remover, and scrub the salt stain. once the salt is gone, shampoo, dry, vacuum, and scotchgard. perfecto! you're right, salt stains mysteriously disappear in the summer. Ahh, you had the confused face, so I thought you didn't believe it. Maybe the moist air makes the salt evaporate or something. I don't know, I'm not a damn scientist, I just work on computers.

I tried, it does work, but I'm still trying to see what I can do to not saturate the carpet with steam, since I don't want too much moisture sitting behind the carpet.
I'm wondering if I can use my shopvac as an "extractor" since it's a dry/wet one... Thanks for that. I sprayed those salt remover onto the carpet directly and scrub with a microfibre cloth, and it just smeared the salt out instead of removing it. Looks like I'll have to give it a try this weekend with the nice weather we are getting.
