DC tire suggestions

Hi everyone I'm new to DC Metro and still running on summer tires (Car is an 07 E92 335i w/sport package). This will be my first winter in the area and not sure what tires to get. Do most of you run all season tires year round or do you have dedicated winter setups? I will be driving prob 150 miles a week and mostly highway.

I'm looking for the least expensive route possible. Thanks everyone.

I run Continental ExtremeContact DWS. Basically the best all-season for snow.

Welcome - winters here can be unpredictable. Two years ago we were hammered by some of the worst snowstorms ever seen in this area, but last year I don't think we had any snowfall at all.

You can probably get by no problem running all seasons if you're looking to save some on cost. I myself have a dedicated winter set I run between Dec-Feb just to be safe.

Only other winter tires I have experience with are Dunlop Winter Sport M3s (had on old Porsche 944) the difference in snow between those and the summer tires was unbelievable - that car went from undriveable to uneventful.

You can justify winter tires if you figure that a) you can sell the extra set of wheels on if/when you sell the car and get some money back and b) you can only wear out one set of tires at a time, so if you keep the car long enough, you may actually save money on tires, winter tires being somewhat less expensive than summer ones.

Personally I wouldn't be without them, but I have family/friends in the Pittsburgh area and don't want to drive my Jeep if I don't absolutely need to.

Buy a used winter setup wheels/tires. I got M6 reps + winter tires for $600 a few years ago.

+1 on the Contis if you only want a one solution setup.

If your current summers are still in shape, you might want to consider a dedicated winter setup...just in case. I currently have Conti DWS on my ride and plan to take my chances with them, since they are highly rated and I don't feel like swapping out my wheels.

Depends on your comfort level...
