Old thread I know, but I searched for this - I don't know if the old 2007 iDrive is different to the new one in this respect, but I just tried Spotify on my iDrive and the track buttons work and it shows the track title on the screen.
I wasn't expecting it to work but was pleasantly surprised when it did! No Jailbreak, just connected with the standard USB Y cable. Brilliant!

I can control pandora without jailbreaking the phone. Just takes a little set up. 1) start pandora; 2) plug in cord; 3) go to "current playback" on I drive menu and voila. shows artist name, album and song and can skip using the steering wheel. Note, sometimes itunes will start up, just close it, and then repeat steps 1-3.

I've just recieved a remplacement cable from the dealer I bought the previous one.
Now, it works perfectly, my iPhone charges when plugged in ! To play Spotify music, I just have to click on the app on my iPhone and it automaticaly switch to it on the iDrive. I have all the controls avalaible . I didn't download Music Control Pro. I think it's useless for this teak ! |

What OS version are you running? In order to use the steering wheel controls/see track info, you need to be running at least iOS 5 and have the latest Spotify installed.

The only way I've had success using the steering wheel controls is when connected via audio bluetooth. As this thread previously suggested, there are some jailbreak workarounds, but I've had no luck getting those to work.

Well, it's finally working. As someone already posted, I had to transfer 1 song with iTunes so the iDrive got "connected" to my iPod Touch. Then I could start Spotify and everything was working. Pause, play, next etc from the steering wheel. I can also see what song is playing on the iDrive.
Awesome! |

So what I did was: 1) Transfer 1 or more songs to the iPod with iTunes. 2) Plug in the BMW cable before you start the car. 3) When the car is running, connect your iPod to the BMW cable. 4) Start Music app on the iPod, see if the steering wheel buttons are working. Now... exit Music app and start Spotify. Play a song and see if you can skip songs etc. It worked for me... maybe I was lucky! |

Does iOS 6 and Spotify work with iDrive CCC? I read that it works fine with CiC F30 etc...
Edit: Still works! Awesome No need to Jailbreak. Last edited by Tredvesone; 10-03-2012 at 02:16 PM.. |

Just thought I'd update this as I was also looking for info on this.
I can confirm that with a $19 Y-Cable from ebay, and a Gen 4 Ipod Touch (running iOS6) - Spotify plays perfectly through the i-Drive on a 2010 E92. No jailbreaking, added software or any tricks needed. The song appears on the screen, with all details relevant to the song playing and full steering wheel controls control the ipod action. Here's some pics to illustrate: .

Y-Cable has nothing to do with it. Turn on the Random mode while listening to Spotify to be able to switch tracks from a steering wheel.

Has anyone gotten Spotify with a 2011 iDrive System? I use an iPod cable to my iPhone, launch the Spotify app, music plays but changing tracks on the steering wheel pauses the iPhone, album art and track titles sporadically work.

Ok, I have only had my car for a couple of days (and yesterday I was out of the country) so I haven't fully explored but this is what I have found so far:
2011 E90 Saloon + Navigation Professional + USB audio Bluetooth: After some playing with the idrive (again v new to it) I managed to play over bluetooth with no art work with track position steering wheel controls worked fine. USB audio (no Y cable, just apple cable on iphone 4): Played with artwork however it seemed to do something funny with the playlists (ie ignore them) and again steering controls worked. I will update when I get a chance but I have only spent about 30 minutes in the car so far. |

Bringing up this thread again for an update: I use Spotify on my iphone 5 with the Y-cable for months on my 07 E90 but lately, iDrive doesn't display the Spotify song anymore nor can I use the steering wheel buttons. The music still plays just fine but now I have to take out the phone to switch songs.
I'm wondering if Spotify made any software changes that made it incompatible with the iDrive. Anyone else have this issue on pre-LCI? |
