More Power

What to do.

Slowly starting to get bored and want something quicker. Conundrum is

my E90 LCI 320D was new had 11miles built to my spec. IT has only done 48K and is paid off.

Now thanks to the performance pack its pushing 205 brake but I want more.

Do I further remap further with the larger intercooler you would think I could hit probably 250 or do I try to find a second hand 330/ 335D and hope it has all bits mine has and is as in good condition.

Your car is really nicely spec (Logic 7!) and you know how its been treated.
That must be worth something.

If you are in no rush, take your time and I am sure a 330/335 with the right spec will come up eventually.

Good luck!

How much would it cost to get your 320d to 250bhp?
Its always costly swapping cars, but the bigger engines will give better gains. A £300 remap would give my 330d 290bhp from its standard 231bhp. Plus I would imagine there is less stress on the engine than 250bhp from a 2.0

mine is now 4 years old had it from new. Cost of goig up on power I thought maybe in region of 235/ 240 would only be no more than couple of hundred.

I might give it a punt and see how it is and then start looking otherwise for a 335D as I think that woudl be the best bet with the low milage I do now.

Any ideas mpg wise the difference between 330D and 335D as I think 335i is just going to be too thirsty

I can give you some figures from my 335d (standard). Hopefully the below will give you an idea of what to expect:

Best: 49mpg in Scotland at 60mph on some A roads. This was over a 25 miles or so.

Long trip: 38-40mpg when I go from London to Lytham (Preston area) once a month. I usually sit around 75-80mph.

Average town: Anywhere between 34 -36mpg

335d - 340bhp with a remap
335i - 370bhp (I think) with a remap and lots more tuning goodies available.

thanks itneresting figures are these normal temp or winter temps.

Just asking as in cold months mine around town can hit as low as 38mpg on motorways though it can easily do 54mpg.

During normal weather I find average mostly town goes to about 46-48

So sounds like a 330D might be a good balance time to save up I think.

Do you have start stop? How many miles do you expect to do? What mix of driving are you doing?

If you do lots of short runs, how about a 330i? (If the 335i is too thirsty/unreliable an option)

Probably get a higher spec car for the same money as the 335d if not better.

330i has been the option but having driven forced induction for such long time not sure I could do na engine, like the kick you get from turbo. However is an option I think a new F30 is out of the question for now so might drive a 330D and 330i back to back and see the difference would be start.

In effect what I currently have is a 325D in terms of power. So its a tough call a 335D woudl give me some mpg on long runs but also plenty of fun on the short fun runs. At same time a 330i would sound good with right setup.

Hate this choosing thing

The BMW performance pack is something that I have been considering.
How would you rate it in terms of gains noticed and much change to the driving experience?

The performance pack IMO should be fitted as standard it just makes the car so much more drivable, engine is smoother no flat spots, a real joy to drive

The 335d doesn't really have the typical turbo punch.. Yes it's very fast but it's sooo smooth - the auto box disguises this further. If you like that big punch a manual 330d (is your 320d manual?) could be the way forward..

that is a very good point i forget the 335d is auto only.

I'm thinking maybe a 330D and remap with manual is in order.

Few ideas I thought of even dropping down to a 1 but they are just to small and need for 4 doors means 3 series is the one to remain.

Might need to have a browse on AUC see whats there and start looking. Have bit of building work taking place over next few months but once done it willbe safe to put new wheels on drive way

My 335i sometimes feels slow.

i got bored of my mapped c320cdi (270bhp).

All I'm saying is the more power you have the more you want. In the end you could spend lots of money and be bored again in 6 months.

I drove a supercharged atom at the weekend. Nothing quite compares anymore... Next time I'll buy a fun weekend car and a boring weekday car - it's cheaper overall!

that is a good point 200bhp aint that slow but I just need a bit more top end.

Plans for a victory hammer S bike towards start of next year that should give me a raw speed fix. I think it be case of searching for AUC and when something right comes up.
