I have never been a fan of the 911 aesthetic until the new 991. The slightly longer wheelbase and shorter overhangs really did wonders for the car in the looks department. I saw them at the Detroit Auto show and was very impressed overall.

I think the 997 looks much better personally. Apart from the overall shape and finer geometric details, I hate the "Porsche" letters on the rear.

The 991 Carrera S's lap time of the Nurburgring matches the 997 GT3's Nurburgring lap time.

I'm looking forward to the arrival of the 991 GT3.

The new 991 doesn't feel as sporty or special as the 997. The cabin feels huge and the electric steering feels like the m3. However the interior is beautiful and the sound of the flat six is simply amazing. Looks like Porsche is slowly headed in the same direction as bmw in many ways.

Did you drive the PDK or 7 MT, and, in any case, what was your impression of the transmission?

I drove a pdk. The pdk is a huge improvement over my 997. It now feels just as responsive as the dct in the m3.

I gotta say, and maybe it's just me, but it seems like they overdid it on the lettering on the back -- a great big "Porsche", with "911 Carrera S" below? Frankly, my first thought was the "Persianity" lettering from the other thread. Overall, though, the look of the 991 is great, but that lettering is a bit bling for a car that's traditionally been fairly understated.

I feel the new car is too big and the headlights on the older model are nicer IMO. The steering was pretty disappointing as well.
