Need some advice on door speakers

Hi I am planning on changing all the speakers in my 325i with logic 7 I am going to replace the headunit and get rid of the factory amp I want to use a JBL MS-8 and 2 PDX f4 amps which put out 100 watts RMS (at least 100 watts RMS if you go by the birthsheet) So I need some speakers that fit in the doors, that can handle 100 watts rms, and also aren't too expensive. I took a look at the thread that has a list of speakers that fit but none of them fit my needs it seems like. I was also wondering if there is a way to make a larger speaker fit while still keeping the stock look. Thanks in advance for any help.

How do the speakers that have been tested, and fit, not fit your needs exactly?

Well most of them will not handle 100 watts. I would love to get Morels or Focals but the price is the only thing stopping me, I may end up getting them anyways. Also what would I do to replace the center channel I wouldn't want to buy a set just to use one of the speakers.

Before you replace all the speakers, put in the MS-8 first and let us know how it sounds. You will be very surprised!

Well the quality should be pretty good with the MS8 I just dont think it will be very loud with just 30 watts RMS per channel.

Well I will try it but I think my bass will over power it I have a PDX M12 hooked up to 2 Alpine Type R's. Also I was wondering if my stock alternator would power all my audio equipment I have a PDX M12 I plan on getting 2 PDX F4's and possibly a third F4 to power the underseat subs.

I think your approach is backwards. You are trying to match the interior speaker outputs to the sub whereas you should match the sub(s) to the interior speakers. In the end, I would be very surprised if you required anything more than one 4 channel amp, the MS-8, an additional L7 tweeter for the center channel, and one 12" sub in the trunk to achieve competition level SQ, and enough volume to make your ears bleed, if you really wanted to.

Well I may be wrong since I dont really know much about the MS-8 but wouldn't having 7 speakers connected to a 4 channel amp defeat the purpose of having a processor. And I've had 1 sub in the trunk but it was nowhere near loud enough you could barely hear it through the seats. I am not looking for SQ in my subs but I would like good sounding speakers.

No I meant the MS-8 can power all speakers, except the woofers under the seats and the trunk sub(s).

Just look in the MS-8 integration thread for more info.

Oh ok I will probably try that for a while. How much quiter is it though than stock because it barely gets loud enough using the auxiliary with my iPod.

Garage List
You can get just about any 5.25" speaker up to around 52mm deep to fit the doors if you don't mind modding the speaker casing to get the 3rd bolt on andshaving a bit of the inside of the door card, although you wil need to seal the gaps around the speaker holes where the speaker doesn't line up exactly. This can look messy from behind as I sealed mine with silicone, but it looks factory from the front as the stand grilles just pop back on as normal.

Is there any way to make a larger speaker fit I was thinking of making a ring that would move the speaker closer to the grill. I am assuming I would have to use a 4 inch speaker rather than a 5 1/4 if this is even possible.

325 upgrade

I am trading in my 2005 325i. I am selling my stereo upgrades as I can't use them in my e90 330. I have a Pioneer Premier head unit that runs my iPod out of my glovebox, an external JL audio amp, 2 way MB Quart speakers for the front door, 2 way JL Audio speakers for the rear shelf and rear door, an 8" JL Audio sub-woofer for the trunk, steering wheel control kit. Cost almost $2000 new, and I'm selling it all for $1000. Let me know if you're interested.

The actual recess behind the grille is just over 4", but you can trim the back of the door card to fit a 5.25" speaker closer within the door panel so that you can fit a slightly deeper or more powerful speaker.

Is there any way to make some alpine type x's or even some type r's fit I am pretty sure they will fit if I mount them on the outside of the door but I'd rather not do that unless I could make it look stock.

We can make anything fit. We don't, because we care how it looks and we feel it to be unneeded. But you seem set on it. Seems like you should do what you're gonna do anyway and post pics. Not sure why you seem stuck on the speakers you are, but I think you want different things out of your audio system than we do. Best of luck!

325i....I would work with VP if I were you. I'm not looking for the same as you but I can say this: I've spent 2-3 months researching and reading options for my car. I thought I knew what I was looking for when I first started. After all this time, I've just about come full circle back to a system similar to what VP-E recommended the first time he emailed me a recommendation. I could have saved a lot of time (his and mine) had I just gone with that, and I'd probably be listening to pristine music by now.

If I could only get him to actually sell me the stuff now!
(j/k VP I know you're busy and God forbid you should enjoy the holiday)
