Except...given the accounts of some other owners...I'd rather just buy an MP3 recording of the engine and just listen to that in my bedroom. I don't think I could keep up with $1/mile ownership on a good year....and $10/mile ownership in a bad year.
haha trust me i am addicted to listening to them on youtube lol. i actually went over all of the number yesterday and i will be picking up a gallardo lp560/4 spyder in june. now the hard part is the color lol. im thinking something obnoxious like lime green lol. much more reliable (audi), less hassle, and it will be brand new. for all the money i would be spending on buying and maintaining a used ferrari (that someone prob beat the shit out of) i can get a new car which in my opinion is much more aggressive than the 355. i guess i will just have to get used to the new exhaust now

Stay away from the 550 and 575M, they depreciate more than any used Ferrari.

Wow! That's awesome! That's such a great car! And the exhaust on that car has some bite too...albeit not the same F1 screamer like the F355.

I'm quite partial to the typical bland colours like black, white or dark grey. The car itself stands out so much there's no point in getting a "look-at-me" paint. That's just imo tho.

expensive. All V12 ferraris are going to be more expensive than the V8. The thing about the 456 that is very expensive are the strange parts. If you get one that is an automatic, if that breaks, you could be out over $20k. And what's even more insane is if you have to replace the front hood, it is $50k. They are going for pretty cheap now, but you have to prepare for the worse in terms of upkeep just in case something does go horribly wrong.

That just sucks... I saw a couple. ~ 50K 2000 model year. A pity, since I think they are one of the best looking ferraris made

I will give you that... although at the cost of hijacking someone else's thread, I was just browsing through the classifieds. The reason I am looking is that me and a buddy of mine want to get a used 911 with the hopes of just using it as a track car. The only caveat is that we are proabably a little too financially responsible, and in an economy like this one, it just seems like a bad finanacial move to drop that coin. That being said, I was looking to run him the idea of buying a used ferrari and using it for a year or so until the market gets better and we can actually drop that coin on a track car. I say 456 because I saw a couple of exaamples that were exemplary and quite affordable. It also helps that the design has to be one of the most pleasing and fluid to come out of Maranello. But after your inputs (and thanks all of you) I think that we may just go in for a low miles example of the 911.

There's way too much misinformation here regarding maintenance. You should really go to ferrarichat if you're truly serious about learning.
