In SC it's not always cold but it was 8-15 degrees the past 3 days which is pretty rare. The AT definitely needs to warm up in cold weather. Mine changes gears pretty sluggishly and delayed shift response in manual mode for the first 5-6 miles. After that the shifts are a lot faster and harder than they are in normal weather. I wish it would shift like this in the summer. The heat takes a few minutes to really kick in as well.

It was -35.5C as I was driving yesterday, but because of the amazing heat all I was wearing was a fleece over a t-shirt. I even washed it later at a heated coin wash and spent an hour drying and express waxing.

Coldest I saw was -10F on the dash. Started after 2 days of sitting the cold no problem (little sluggish crank though but to be expected). I did get trunk open light when it wasn't open! Rained the night before so maybe some ice formed on/near sensor to throw it. All good now.
And +1 my ass is cold for a few seconds waiting for the seats to heat up. |

All of these responses add up to one thing - BMW really needs to come up with an OEM way to remote start these puppies without aftermarket options that are often over thousand or involve hacking wires...

That would be cool, but it's actually not bad it heats up pretty fast, my e46 took ages to heat up inside.

I was going to have a remote start installed but it was quickly shot down by my dealer, they said if i had any warrenty issues they would first remove the remote start at my cost before they tried to diagnose any issue because of the non factory installed accessory.....

Just a pain to hear creaking, cracking these past few artic mornings here in NY. Kept checking mirrors to see if parts were falling off from under lol. My little 5 min drives to the train station aren't much help to the battery either so I scope the long route home at night. Personal injury wise, I was a victim of slipping on ice and hitting my face on the steps back in December so I am an even more cautious driver now.
Happy driving everyone! Most importantly be SAFE out there! |

I must say that after reading all the posts here that most members have no idea what actual cold is. Those of us members that live in the Canadian provinces of Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba face this each winter for weeks on end so its no surprise to us that our cars servive to drive another day. Welcome to our world......

1. Winter starts - we get some snow, it gets cold (maybe just below freezing). Time for the winter jacket. 2. Get some more snow - shovel the driveway 3. It gets colder - pull out the gloves 4. It gets REALLY cold (like -40°) plus windchill. At this point, it's just cold there's nothing else to be said. 5. It warms up slightly - maybe -25° C. At this point, your brain tells you it's actually warm out because it's so much warmer than it was. You feel like you hardly need a jacket. 6. It gets cold again. You suck it up 7. It gets to -10° C and now you can shovel the driveway with a T-Shirt on. It's cold, yes, but life just goes on. Since we're used to it being this cold every year for at least a few weeks, it's obviously not a news story. It was pretty funny to hear Toronto shut down their airport for -26° because it was too cold, and that same day it was -37° here and our airport didn't miss a flight. So even within Canada we can still make fun of other Canadians for not knowing what cold is. |

They say it'll be +11C (50F) in Calgary early next week. +5C (40C) tomorrow.

Still I think the airport went a bit overboard. I would assume that Toronto's airport employees would have access to warm clothing for this kind of event. When the cold hits places like Georgia, then I can see a huge issue because people just wouldn't have the kit needed. The planes can operate no problem at that temp it's routinely -40 to -60 at 35,000 feet. |
