s54 vs n52
im wondering if anyone can tell me the key differences that allow the s54 to make 333hp from only an extra .2 liters from the n52? is it from the ITBs or compression ratio?

are you being serious? its everything. itb, compression, head, design, its different from top to bottom. i would understand a n54 vs n52 question but s54 vs n52? thats like comparing a gt500 to a 5.0 mustang. totally different

I'm assuming the S54 revs higher as well. Also pretty sure it would no longer be emissions-compliant. Oh, and it got pretty bad fuel economy too if I remember correctly.
This is like me wondering why my S2000 makes 240hp from 2.2L and comparing it to my 328. Apples to oranges... |

Ed: you can get a 3.2 stroker kit that makes over 300hp on stock cams and exhaust etc. With exhaust headers tune etc you should see over 330hp Stroker kit is worth more than an s54 swap, andeven more than my soon n54 swap People selling this stuff are pretty bad at business. |

if i want a BSM 135i in manual with decent kilometers, decent condition paint, sunroof/rear PDC (same options i have all around) it'll be MAYBE $45k if i'm lucky (plus on road costs.. tax etc.), likely $50k+ (especially if i don't want to go interstate) and there's only 12 manual 335's (over 100 step) in australia and they're all E92/E93, i'm a fan of E90 3ers lol cheapest man 335i is 41k at 115,000km all others are 55+ i can get the motor and all accessories (turbo etc) for $3.5k, then i just need a HPFP, gearbox bellhousing adapter plate, stock exhaust/dp's and intercooler/piping (2nd hand, cheap as) and a workshop to install, wire, and code for manual, and i'll get it reconditioned for about $1k. i'm hoping <10k installed pretty easily, all going smoothly definitely going to keep everyone posted Quote:
and yeah, there's only a couple of N54 E87's in the world as far as i can tell |

Same here, I bought my 128i in Nov 2011 too. Personal loan/Credit line, almost paid off.
Good luck with the swap! I wonder if the F30 M3 engine will ever fit in our engine bays....twin turbo or 3 turbo n55 variant... One can dream...lol
