Idrive/nav comes through!

So, I'm driving back from San Diego to LA at 2:00 AM (and, you know that if you driving on the highway at that hour there was a women involved - but that is besides the point). I get about 30 miles south of Anaheim when a warning comes up on the Idrive that the bloody I-5 is totally shut down! I figure I'm screwed.

Idrive then routes me off the highway on the exit right before the closure. As I pulled off to the road, I could see everybody that didn't have the same warning lined up to get on the detour. At 2:00 AM in the morning, the highway is like a parking lot. Those poor SOBs probaby stayed stuck in the spot for a long time afterwards.

I am suspicious of the Nav's directions, but I follow it. It routes me onto an alterative route with no problem. I totally missed the tie up, and get home 1/2 hour later. The entire experience wound up costing me about 10 minutes of travel time. But, if I did not Nav, I probably would have been hung up in Anaheim for another hour or two.

Now, I realize that some Nuvi's and other aftermarket solutions have these capabilities too, but I gotta say that the system really delivered for me.

The BMW Navi is kind of clunky, but it gets the job done. And, it does have some really nice features.
