Why would you want a quartz one? Just curious, I've got a bit of an allergy to quartz. I'd rather pay for service every five years on a mechanical watch and deal with slightly dodgy timekeeping, over dealing with batteries.

Nothing against quartz watches but if I'm buying quartz I wont spend the money on Omega. If you're going quartz and want Swiss there are a ton of brands like Tissot.
The reason I like Omega has a lot to do with their mechanical movements. How many other companies make movements that went on Moon missions?

If you're buying an Omega specifically for functionality(diving specs, etc.) then I could understand quartz also. But if it's purely a cool/fashion item half the coolness is unique movements.

First I must say thanks for everyone who responded, I needed some additional input and I certainly received some constructive criticism. I just got my watch tonight and I couldn't be happier!

I gotta say this watch is pretty slick. It's weight is just right, and it goes with pretty much anything. We'll see how it's doing here in a few years but until then, I'm very satisfied.

Can I make a suggestion? Take the bracelet off and save it for special occasions. Put the watch on a NATO strap. The bracelet will scratch pretty easily, and they're difficult to restore to perfect due to the different finishes on the links. The clasp will also scratch easily, but since it's brushed metal you can usually fix it with a scotch-brite pad pretty easily.

It put a NATO on my Rolex in the summer. Have a black and a Bond one but always use the black. I use the NATO because Im swimming, fishing and SCUBA diving and can be rough on the braclet. A Submariner bracelet is $700+ to replace and I also dont want it scratched up. Besides, the black NATO looks great against the S/S. Change of pace.

Congrats on the new Omega.

Yea, lots of people ask "Why would you spend $1,800 on a quartz watch?" Well the answer is I didn't want another auto, I wanted a watch that I could beat around more (you have to be more careful with autos in general), I wanted a watch that kept better time (I'm not hugely into that, it was just a plus), and I want a watch that lasts 3+ years on a battery.

The service of an auto watch is much more expensive than the service of a quartz watch. As long as you don't get unlucky or don't beat it around a lot and cause the battery to leak, a quartz watch can last for a long time without service (not including battery replacement).

I do love the sweeping second hand of an auto though...

I would argue that if it's purely a cool/fashion item, then the movement wouldn't matter, it's all about the look. If you are more hardcore about watches and appreciate them, then it could very well be about the movement.

Thanks, just curious. I've worn mechanical watches for years and never had any trouble from abusing them, but understand your concern.

If you are interested you can get NATOs here.

www.broadarrow.net

I've ordered several from them and you can't beat the price.

These NATO are better. Better nylon quality and metal is more robust.

I'm kind of curious to see what the watch looks like with a NATO strap on it... Do you by chance have any? Also which type specifically is everyone referring to- each website has tons of straps to choose from.

Congrats to the OP on his new Omega!

I've got two - 2254 and a Planet Ocean. They all look great on a rubber strap, bracelet, or Nato.

2254 on Zulu:

Planet ocean on rubber Omega strap:

I second Broadarrow.net for straps.

I don't have any watches on NATO/G10/Zulu straps at the moment, only rubber. If I were to buy one of the above mentioned straps, I'd do it here.

Site looks like crap. Straps are great. I've never heard a bad thing said about timefactors. Also, if your looking for a phoenix strap (phoenix at one point was a supplier to the UK Ministry of Defense) you can find them here:

That was my point, if you're hardcore enough to spend $1k or more then the movement is probably important.

The people that are just into how the watch looks can get a replica with quartz movement for $100-$200.
