Hi guys,

I'm in the midst of having my serpentine belt VCG coil packs and injectors replaced under 3rd party warranty and would like to also have the turbos replaced, however the warranty rep mentioned over the phone that wastegate damage is not covered because it's externally attached to the turbo.

I've taken a look at multiple diagrams of the N54 snails and it looks like that rattle could also be coming from the seal which is located inside the turbo.

Is there any other way to "show" the turbo is damaged from within? I mean it really does sound bad, warranty ends next March.

*edit*
I live in Toronto Canada and wastegate recall does not apply up here

Thanks

The wastegates are internal, but the actuators are not. Are they denying coverage of the actuators or actual wastegates? Going through the same issue myself...

Is your 3rd party coverage through CoverageOne or another company?

I believe the actual cause of the waste gate rattle is where the bearing is that attaches to the waste gate actuator, usually not the actuators themselves.

At least that's how it seemed on mine when I had them out.

Well I called Lubrico and they said wastegate damage is not covered because it is located externally, however it looks like on the n54 turbos it actually is located within the turbo. Will give them a call again tomorrow to clarify.

Looks like the bearing is located internally, I might be able to argue on that basis.

Is there anyway the billet itself can get damaged?

i had an n54 turbo replaced with a warranty direct policy due to wastegate rattle. It was also giving me underboost/limp mode codes, so that helped
